Loving music is an attempt to prolong your life. Eternity is a lie. Throw out yer records. Dance naked to the sound of silence.

...as a human being I'm hard-wired to be attracted to patterns while also, being a verbal creature, taking in much information (and of the deepest semantic content) aurally; making me predisposed to an attraction towards auditory patterns of deep semantic content (music).

bnw, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

like reading a novel my brain does some imaginative work during music, but music will always be more abstract, less easy to pin down. I can go back to some of my favourite stuff and be on the edge of exhileration and confusion

the music gets me into a mentallly sensitive state i can't get to in other ways, draws me in like a dream, and all quite legal

I couldn't agree more heartily.

Cool! I like psych too much. Hannibal Lechter would hate me, he doesn't think psychology is a "real science".

Dan Irons, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
I have to love music. I have to love weird music. Otherwise I'd be just like everyone else.

Also it provides an escape route. When life is too much, you're depressed, people have been calling you a swot, you realize that you aren't going to get that time machine and you'll never see Pink Floyd live with Syd Barrett, you know your novel's going badly and you probably won't become rich and famous... Well, there has to be another way out apart from suicide.

Anna Rose, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah, because I hate everything else, jesus the best part about liking music is that when people who like music hate more music than people who don't like music.
