Wow, what a great looking package. I've never seen that before.

in addition to "crash," the album contains the shambling bubblegum classic "stop killing me," which you should play immediately afterward.

That edition of the single has the a side repeated 3 times on side 1.

Side 2 has a brief version of Crash, followed by the normal bside track and then Crash again.

It is a strange e.p.

That single package that NickB posted is beautiful. Would love to find it. Fantastic song, too. I'm gonna try and track down this "Stop Killing Me"...

xpost Hahahahaha! I've gotta find that! I had a poster for "Lovely" hanging in my bedroom back in the day.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 6 January 2006 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Lord, that single cover is fantastic. Never saw it before!

I R glad to have the Lazy 86-88 collection on CD.

The 1995 version they re-did for "Dumb and Dumber" movie has a bad overdubbed guitar solo. Go for the original.

This track also features in 'DJ Yoda's How to Cut and Paste: 80s Edition'. It's mixed nicely into Aha's 'Take On Me'! :)

My 7" has different cover to those above. I've never actually listened to any of the Primitives' albums! I have Lazy 86-88, a Best Of, and the Crash 7", that's all. Are there any great album tracks I'm missing?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 9 January 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Lovely is great.. I haven't heard any of the subsequent records.
"Way Behind Me" and "Run Baby Run" stick out in my memory...

"Keep Me In Mind" from their second album is probably my favorite Primitives track. So RIDICULOUSLY hooky. Also "Out of Reach" and "Dizzy Heights."

There's also a version of "All the Way Down" on a single I've got that eschews the J&MChain thing for an uptempo beat & a crazy organ solo. Awesome.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 9 January 2006 15:22 (twenty years ago)

That alternate version's on the American CD of Pure, said second album and my favorite release by the band. It's a perfect summer album through and through.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 January 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Did you ever hear their version of "As tears go by" ?

basically, imagine playing the instrumental of "Crash" while Tracy sings "As tears go by" !

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 9 January 2006 15:26 (twenty years ago)

I just ordered PURE from half.com for $3. "Lovely" isn't as cheap, unfortunately. ...but I have the LP...

D.I.Y. U.N.K.L.E. (dave225.3), Monday, 9 January 2006 15:27 (twenty years ago)

while nothing on Pure approaches "Crash" it does have the fun little tune "Secrets" plus the sweet "Summer Rain." While it wilts in Lovely's shadow it does have its own charms.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Monday, 9 January 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

Personal faves on "Lovely" that haven't been mentioned: "Spacehead," "I'll Stick With You," "Don't Want Anything to Change."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:22 (twenty years ago)

I always liked Greil Marcus' hearing "Crash" as a successor to the Jamies' "Summertime Summertime."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:22 (twenty years ago)

I kinda regret giving my copy of Lovely to my friend after not having it a week, mostly because I know it'll be a long time before I come across another copy. Oh well, there's always this: http://www.crashsite.org/mp3.htm
