drinking: Two Brothers Heavy-Handed IPA 6-pack and bottle of Chimay

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 03:36 (twenty years ago)

i'm drinking Wachusett IPA (Made in Westminster, Mass)

what is Dashiell Hedayat?

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 7 January 2006 03:40 (twenty years ago)

sweet, way to support the local brauhaus skot. this Two Brothers stuff is from Chi-town..

the Dashiell Hedayat is some French dude who made this one LP on the legendary Shandar label ... label known for some pretty decent music but some pretty outrageous collektor skum prices. I never heard it before but the french Mantra label just reissued it. It's pretty wigged, I gotta say. I bet that Nurse With Wound guy put it on his list or something; it seems up his alley, you know what I'm saying? maybe like a french Brainticket or something. except w/o the orgasm sounds, just some stoned dude rambling.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 03:45 (twenty years ago)

scott, did wayne tell you about the time i went to crybaby hill? i hope not. it is the only reason eric bachmann remembers who i am. i was only a kid!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Saturday, 7 January 2006 03:49 (twenty years ago)

sounds cool, stormy.

i am now playing: *The Revolt Of Emily Young* by Foxx: A Rock Novella By Buzz Cason & Pepper Martin

not a rock opera, mind you. a rock NOVELLA. it's okay. i pull it out every blue moon. hardrock/psych/orchestratedpop. 1970 on Decca.

No, he didn't, Maria. I will be sure to ask him!

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 7 January 2006 03:52 (twenty years ago)

ok, wait, I just did some googling myself and I guess it turns out Gong are the backing band on this thing. So there you go. I didn't even know that when I picked it up... makes sense tho.

Washboard Sam is great, and was an inspired choice! I have one of those complete recordings CDs on Document, I can't recall which volume. I almost picked up this cd of Henry Stone-issued blues tracks tonight, which had a bunch of awesome-sounding Earl Hooker titles that I didn't recognize, but I left it becauze they had two copies and I know it will still be there when I go back.

now I'm gonna put on Luiz Bonfa - Solo in Rio since the Brigman and Dashiell blew my mind, maaaaan and I need to come down a little

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 03:55 (twenty years ago)

After this.. i think it is gonna be steve tibbetts.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Saturday, 7 January 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

"Townes Van Zandt is the greatest songwriter that's ever lived, and I'll stand in my boots on Bob Dylan's coffee table and say so."

- Steve Earle

(note: I do not necessarily endorse this POV.)

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Saturday, 7 January 2006 05:29 (twenty years ago)

yeah but i don't think dylan is the grebtest songwriter who ever lived either! i never really listened to townes van zandt. this guy i work with was talking about him last week, though, but he did not put any on to listen to. weirdo.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Saturday, 7 January 2006 05:32 (twenty years ago)

This record is like some unholy cross between Lou Reed Berlin and Glen Campbell's Greatest Hits.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Saturday, 7 January 2006 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Or holy. Make that holy.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Saturday, 7 January 2006 05:34 (twenty years ago)

i can't get into lou reed's solo material.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Saturday, 7 January 2006 05:35 (twenty years ago)

31g (31g), Saturday, 7 January 2006 09:58 (twenty years ago)

New playlist I made for the restaurant where I work. Indie rock and folk; new stuff and not-so-new stuff. Starts out very mellow, acoustic, and hushed, and ends with more instrumental dynamics and enthusiasm. A couple of really nice juxtapositions in there...

"Heart Beats"

01. Untitled #1 - Gerard Smith
02. Not Going Anywhere - Keren Ann
03. Heartbeats - Jose González
04. Wolverine - Sufjan Stevens
05. Metarie (UK Version) - Brendan Benson And The Wellfed Boys
06. Somebody That I Used To Know - Elliott Smith
07. Blizzard of '77 - Nada Surf
08. Naomi - Neutral Milk Hotel
09. Let's Roll - The Stills
10. Slottet #2 - The Radio Dept.
11. Untitled - Interpol
12. Idiocy - The Double
13. Same Ghost Every Night - Wolf Parade
14. Did You See The Words - Animal Collective
15. Someday Soon - The Doves
16. Warm And Sunny Days - The Dears
17. Cosmic Dancer (live 1991) - Morrissey
18. On The Dance Floor - Levy
19. Already Gone - The Pleased
20. Hang On Siobhan - The Walkmen

Before that I was listening to lots and lots of doom metal.

Naked Shit - demo #2
Air Conditioning pic disc single
Chisel - Guns of Meridian Hill 7"
Boxed In - s/t LP
The Holy Mountain - Entrails

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 7 January 2006 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Beefhart Peel sessions, Isaac Hayes Hot Buttered Soul, and some random stuff from the YSI thread.

js (honestengine), Saturday, 7 January 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Weren't Hunting Lodge a Port Huron (Michigan) industrial-type band from the '80s (therefore predating both David Yow and Arab on Radar's careers?)

Me, I'm listening to the local rock show on the radio (Brendan Benson, His Name Is Alive, etc.). Earlier today, it was the Kompakt 100 comp (kinda underwhelmed by it so far) and a cheap-o Zombies greatest hits collection.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Sunday, 8 January 2006 03:27 (twenty years ago)

i am listening to the new Bleeding Through and it is not thrilling me. Sometimes I envy ILMers who never have to worry what Bleeding Through sound like.
