Anthony Hamilton "Ain't Nobody Worryin'"

This is just gorgeous. I know that (neo)soul is about the least fashionably music in the uni/indie/blogoverse right now, but his voice! The melodies! "Ain't Nobody Worryin'" and "Never Love Again" already feel like stone-cold soul classics. Anyone else interested, or (should I say it?) are you still stuck in an R Kelly cul-de-sac?

I bought Comin' From Where I'm From and wanted to like it cause his voice is great and I liked the two singles, but to tell the truth it didn't really hold my attention. I'm not really interested in this one.

This might be a nitpick, but I think the drums are mixed gratingly high in a lot of his songs.

Hey guys, search the old threads--Here's one

Anthony Hamilton - Comin' Where I'm From

I have not heard the new one yet but am curious about it. I believe Matt C. (Begs to Differ/Haikunym) expressed his disapointment with it on another thread. However, I also saw a rave review of it somewhere(Entertainment Weekly maybe?). I'll decide for myself soon.

I still listen to Comin' From Where I'm From all the time, but I didn't really get into Soulife (collection of early tracks, I think).

I've only had a chance to listen to a few tracks off this one, but some of it seems to be closer to the gospel tent-ish live stuff that I've heard.

I was gonna start a thread for this on Friday, but didn't really have anything to say except "anybody heard it?" And "is it good?" So now I can ask. I've very interested.

That'd be "I'm very interested."

Do it: it takes a little time for the strongest tracks to come through, but it's just really..beautiful.

I don't really like the musical backing, but he's got a great voice (obv)

Thats what I said at first. But I've changed my mind.

i like ant hamilton but that title aint nobody worrying just sounds like such a quaint old soul sort of title. too harmless.

I would've thought I'd like it, but it's not really clicking. Maybe you have to listen to the lyrics?

ten years pass...

Amazing that this thread hasn't been revived in a decade!

Fitting, I guess. his new album is a snooze. His last sharp vocal was on that Jill Scott song in 2011.

I like his voice on the new one, even when the songs don't work. Of the 2 albums Himes discusses there, the Porter one is better. Sure Porter goes for a Bill Withers meets Donny Hathaway retro approach, but the songs are crafted more uniquely musically and lyrically than Hamilton's.
