I'm looking for people and organisations who are involved in interesting/experimental music, and who are based in Scotland, for a not for profit project.

I'm currently starting work on a project to establish a not for profit website based network of resources and contacts for people making 'interesting' music in Scotland. In order to get some initial feedback about what I am intending to do, I'm going to send an email to everyone involved in this area. To this end, I've put together a list of everyone I can think of who may be interested. The trouble is, I'm pretty sure there are many more people out there who are not on my list and who would welcome the opportunity to contribute as much as I would welcome their contributions.

If you are aware of anyone who is involved in making, promoting or distributing music that falls somewhere into, or between, the following categories then please post their names here or email me on the address below: breakcore, noise, improv, drone, electronica, idm, dark ambient/ industrial, ambient, doom, free folk, contemporary classical, free jazz, post rock, minimalism, sound art, electro-acoustic, math rock and other associated styles.

Could try getting in touch with Gayle Brogan at Boa Melody Bar - http://www.apexonline.com/melodybar/intro~1.htm

David, Heather or Alex at Volcanic Tongue in could probably provide a few leads...

I have some interest in this as a writer/blogger who lives in Edinburgh. If you think that's pertinent, you're welcome to add me to any list. (I write Said the Gramophone, as well as for The Skinny, Plan B, etc.)

These are all really excellent, thanks.

Sean, I'll be in touch soon.

You could give me a shout, though my band maybe fall on the "pop" end of the above.

Michael Lambert (Michael Lambert), Monday, 9 January 2006 21:39 (twenty years ago)

I would very much like to hear what the pop end of the above sounds like so I'll be in touch.

Thanks DJ Martian. I may well be going to KTYN this year. I am intrigued by its def leppard style 'in the round' stage set-up.

Where were you people in 1979 when I needed you?

(note: "not having been born yet" is not a valid excuse)

three years pass...

If any of you are curious, updatescotland.com has continued to develop over the last few years. It's still non-profit, is even more comprehensive and now has an events guide. If you are curious to find out about experimental, electronic, marginal, weird, underground, etc music in Scotland, then this site should be of interest.
