my coworker just asked my opinion on which of these to get.

but i couldn't begin to tell him, having such very limited cdj experience...

anyone have a feel on either machine?

I've never trusted Numark equipment, even if some of their stuff is nice, they have little support amongst the DJs. The Technics is huge and expensive. Pioneer is the standard, the CDJ-1000 is a beautiful machine, so I reckon the 800 would be a great deal. I've used Denon's and found them fine, and conventional wisdom has them as a popular brand.

I can't remember if the platters spin on these like in the more expensive cd players. What are the features he requires? The Pioneer 800 is a lot cheaper, and smaller, then the above mentioned Numark and Technics. A good resource for research is to read the reviews at turntablelab.com.

I'm in love with my pioneer cdj-800. I can't see how he'd be dissapointed with those ones if they're his first cdj purchase.

he had an old set of numarks in 2000..and then wasn't spinning much..now hes getting back at it..
