damaged LP
sst / unicorn. 9502 / 15 tracks / nov 1981
RI: sst. 007 / 16 tracks / 1982 (?)
RI: EU: roadrunner. / ?

Originally distributed by MCA/Unicorn, full cover sleeve photo. First press has MCA logo covered by a parental warning sticker, second press has Unicorn logo on back, no MCA logo. Also some copies with misprinted cover, back cover is plain white. After the distribution deal went bad it was reissued on SST. RI has b/w photo, and there's one extra track (Louie Louie from the Posh Boy 7"). Late 80's SST reissue on purple vinyl (other sources say pink - maybe a second color press). Euro press on Roadrunner also includes extra track "Louie Louie. Also available on cassette and CD (CD includes Jealous Again 12").

The first Dead Kennedys was on Cherry Red (UK) and I.R.S. (U.S.).. a lot of known indie label pioneers became indie label pioneers because of their underwhelming experiences dealing with trying to sign to a bigger label -- even if they had the momentum for their self-released stuff going already. The hope was that the money from the bigger (i.e. not necessarily major) label deal would help fund the artists' own labels.. but that didn't work out as planned in many cases... hence SST, Alternative Tentacles, etc.

For Black Flag and the DKs, it was easier in the UK than in the U.S., I guess.

sorry, Europe, not UK.

Rollins was, er, NOT HAPPY about the Roadrunner experience.

rollins was never happy abt anything.

FWIW, the euro press is still more common than a first SST press.

five years pass...

can't believe that the version of "Louie Louie" on this has STILL never been reissued in any form whatsoever.

somewhere along the line I ended up with a Unicorn press instead of a Roadrunner one, thought I was going insane today when that song turned up missing because that sequence (Damaged 1 -> LL) is burned into my brain.
