I have on my record player a pristine copy of Nightmare on Wax's "I'm for Real". (an advantage of living in Sheffield is that hidden away in living rooms and lofts os loads of this stuff - this dude at work has got these utterly mint copies of all old warp/late 80s dance music that he has lent me)
It's a wicked tune, but somethings freaking me out - it sounds really muffled or distorted, in particular, the bass. normally it would presumably be only the needle, or the record, i guess, to blame. but this is a mint copy, and although my needle is a bit mashed, other tunes dont sound liek this. in the light of this, and of hearing the story that warp used to persuade the dude cutting the pressings to take the filters or whatever off his equipment to get more bass than was safe for it onto the record, i wnodered if the pressing was in fact just like that as a result of this. The Aftermath side seems pretty fine, so it's confusing. The record looks honest to god like it's new.
anyway, this ones wicked eh! Thnx to gareth who put it on a tape for me all those years ago which i listened to goign thru mongolia then lost :(
those tapes were awesome.
