hahaha..

i was looking at that eBay auction too
. I remember way back some guy at WFMU had a fairly comprehensive 99 Records broadcast. You can listen to it too.

US $102.50 and only one hour left..

Academy Records to thread asap!

also, wtf is up with $160 for this 99 recs Congo thing? How much different can these cuts be from version on other Congo Ashanti/Congos records?

thanks for the heads up on that wfmu link. my friend is thinking of bidding REALLY high on that liquid liquid thing and he's not sure he should. supposedly, according the seller, the pressing is really bad AND it's 9 songs on a 7 inch, so it'll sound super shitty.

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 23:18 (twenty years ago)

sorry, didn't mean to publicize the auction if this "friend" is really you. I don't think any ILMers have that kind of money anyhow.

looks intriguing for a listen, but I think any interest in bidding was severely dampened by that interview you just posted. i think i've had "liquid idiot" in my slsk wishlist for about three years now.

Dan Selzer, you got this?

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Thursday, 12 January 2006 23:38 (twenty years ago)

wow, that sucks

jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 13 January 2006 00:14 (twenty years ago)

i hope i'm not leaking priviliged info but there should be some liquid idiot live footage appearing on dvd later this year. that congo 12" is really over priced. ALL the tracks on it are available elsewhere. it's a good record but definitely not their best material.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 13 January 2006 00:19 (twenty years ago)

i'm so glad you found that link. my friend was about to bid 200$ on it, but he's coming at this whole post punk thing from a hip hop/dj perspective and isn't so into the noise. it really wasn't me. i rarely pay more than 30-40$ for a record

jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 13 January 2006 00:28 (twenty years ago)

glad i could help.. 3 mins left..

I really want to fucking hear this.

false prophets that old lost sheet music people people pope, Friday, 13 January 2006 00:59 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i would imagine it's rather clunk and bangy. not exactly breaks material. but what do i know?

at least your friend wasn't this poor guy. maybe we should buy a couple of those $6 boots, toast the covers in the oven slightly, and resell for fun + profit.

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Friday, 13 January 2006 01:25 (twenty years ago)

fucck, it went for $225! sucker

was that optimo popsike auction a fake?

jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 13 January 2006 01:28 (twenty years ago)

the popsike thing is real, i mean.. the auction was real.. whether the record was genuine or not is debatable. plus, if you were sleazy enough to print boots, why not distribute the first few for $$$ prices.

i'm curious, this also sort of pertains to the "random rap" phenomenon: do mp3 rips of extremely rare albums depress or stimulate auction prices?

on the one hand, a taste might make you want it even more. but on the other, like in your friends case, sometimes hearing an mp3 make you realize it's one to pass on.

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Friday, 13 January 2006 03:32 (twenty years ago)

"some guy"... ha!

The Liquid Idiot record (and yes I own one) is a fun curiosity, but no freaking way it's $224 worth of fun. There's also an Idiot Orchestra 7" from around the same time that I don't remember too well...

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 13 January 2006 03:50 (twenty years ago)

i sold the optimo ep on ebay this summer for, um, 30 bucks? something like that. it wasn't sealed, but it was near perfecto. i guess it HAS gone down since 2004.(summer is also a bad time to sell stuff though.)
