I want to immerse myself in his work. Anything he's ever been involved with is fair game.

Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals" and "Double Dutch." The 7-inch mix of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax." The first two 12-inch remixes of FGTH's "Welcome To The Pleasuredome." The Art of Noise sequence that goes "Beat Box"/"Beat Box (Diversion One)"/"Close (to the Edit)"/ "Close-Up" (and why has the MIGHTY "Close-Up" never been reissued?). Yes's "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and its remix. The Buggles' big hit plus "On TV" and maybe "Clean Clean." ABC's "The Look of Love." Anne Pigalle's "Why Does It Have To Be This Way." Pet Shop Boys' "Left To My Own Devices" and "It's Alright." Propaganda's "Dr. Mabuse." And, yes, "Do They Know It's" freakin' "Christmas."

But you're not a lady, so Ethan is sad.

"Left To My Own Devices" needs to be the long version, and I think Douglas' FGTH picks are a bit wonky - you need one "Two Tribes" 12" at least, and if you were going to have two 12"s of the same song, "Carnage Mix" and "Armageddon Mix" are the ones to go for. Propaganda's "Duel" too please - swap it for the second mix of the Yes track!

I'm sure Marcello and Dr C have their own ideas but I'd go for...
  1. Buggles - Video killed...
  2. Dollar the quartet of singles from hand held in black and white through to videotheque.
  3. Malcolm Mclaren - Buffalo Gals/Double dutch.
  4. ABC - The singles from Lexicon of love.
  5. Art of noise - Close up/moments in love.
  6. Yes - leave it 12" remix
  7. FGTH the first 3 singles (12" if there's room).
  8. Propaganda - Dr Mabuse/Duel
  9. Grace Jones - Slave to the rythm 12"
  10. PSB - Left to my own devices.

Nothing from the 90's, though I do have a soft spot ofr Rod Stewart's downtown train and Eddi Reader's Nobody lives without love.

Christ yes Dollar and Grace Jones!! My brain isn't working this morning.

Tom, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It'll probably be a CDR, actually. Can I get some man-love for that?

What about songs featuring samples of his work?

Keiko, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

chaki, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Billy, your list will do just fine. Isn't Buggles the best band name ever? The pleasure of just saying the word. Buggles! Buggles!
