Chantilly Bass (ChantillyBass), Sunday, 22 January 2006 04:21 (twenty years ago)

I like the Girls Aloud mix that's released in November.

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Sunday, 22 January 2006 23:46 (twenty years ago)

that dissidance remix seconded

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 26 January 2006 06:55 (twenty years ago)

Moby - "Where You End (Tiga's All That I Need is to Be Sampled Mix)" (Mute) not a particularly brilliant track but better than the original that's for sure!

Chicken Lips - "White Dwarf (Zeefungk Mix)" (Adrift)
Clearlake - "Good Clean Fun (Chicken Lips Dub Remix)" (Domino) two nice examples of murky Lips disco

Missy Elliott - "Teary Eyed (Tiefschwarz Club Mix)" (Atlantic) everything you expect it to be, reminds me a bit of the Spektrum remix actually

Test Icicles - "What's Your Damage (Digitalism Remix)" (Domino) crunchy rock-house with hard fuzzy bass

Snuten - "Chin Up! (Prins Thomas Miks)" (C+C) this is actually from December but I only discovered it last week. expansive Norwegian cosmic beardy house

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 26 January 2006 10:17 (twenty years ago)

Plus this week's Jacques lu Cont mixes of Madonna and Coldplay of course...

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 26 January 2006 10:19 (twenty years ago)

I suspect the Tiefschwarz "Teary Eyed" remix may be the raviest thing they've done, but I'd have to listen to all their other stuff again to confirm. It's good!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:41 (twenty years ago)

job, could you gmail me the tiefschwarz missy, chicken lips and snuten please?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:55 (twenty years ago)

Chicken Lips mixes are available from several download services, btw...

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 26 January 2006 13:06 (twenty years ago)

i don't have any access to slsk or similar services at all these days :(

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 26 January 2006 13:08 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Any new and good remixes worth seeking out?

van igloo (van smack), Friday, 24 March 2006 00:51 (twenty years ago)

It's actually from last year, but for the last month I've been playing the Reverso 68 Remix of Lazyboy's "Police Dogs Bonfire" almost constantly.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 24 March 2006 02:51 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm the only person on earth who likes the fifteen-minute Ewan Pearson remix of Goldfrapp's "Ride A White Horse", but I'm OK with that - it's one of the most extreme examples of a more, let's say, "laconic" approach to disco that I've ever heard, although having had it on repeat for a week or so, I'm still having fun bopping along to the all various through-lines. Also, my love for that big ridiculous "BEOOOOOO" synth that intermittantly shows up to punctuate part 2 will outlive even the word "love" itself. Seriously.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Friday, 24 March 2006 07:08 (twenty years ago)

Ah this gets my vote as well, I've mentioned somewhere how it also feels like a "dirty pleasure" to enjoy it. Osunlade's remix of Kelley Polar's Ashamed Of Myself is also excellent but it switches rythmically at one point which truly doesn't help while mixing.

blunt (blunt), Friday, 24 March 2006 07:14 (twenty years ago)

modeselektor - silikon (sirius mo remix)

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 March 2006 07:21 (twenty years ago)

I love the Pearson remix of "Ride a White Horse"!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 24 March 2006 09:41 (twenty years ago)

Thought I'd given up on the more monochromatic strains of electro house completely, but Cagedbaby's remix of Van Helden's 'Sugar' is fine. The Seymour Bits mix of Cagedbaby's 'Disco Biscuit' might be from 2005 but for a pair of sexx-disco like-minds like them, it's a perfect match.

BARMS, Friday, 24 March 2006 15:17 (twenty years ago)

"(far from) home", dfa mix. whoooooooooooosh!

haitch (haitch), Friday, 24 March 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

i love the Ewan Pearson "Ride A White Horse". it has no alison goldfrapp on it which is a huge bonus.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 24 March 2006 16:11 (twenty years ago)

delia and gavin - 'revelee' (carl craig mix)

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Madonna - "Sorry (Pet Shop Boys mix)"

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Just here to second that Osunlade remix, it is gorgeous.

Jena (JenaP), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:39 (twenty years ago)

i knew stir would say that so i didn't bother!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:59 (twenty years ago)

ysi?

jed_ (jed), Friday, 24 March 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I know it's an old question, but when is this Carl Craig remix coming out?

Jena (JenaP), Friday, 24 March 2006 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Ewan Pearson/Goldfrapp very much seconded! Some more:

Rui da Silva - “Lixuneanos (Martinez Haunted-Voices Mix)” (Sixty Four)
Mylo featuring Freeform Five - “Muscle Car (Alex Smoke's Rippling Mix)” (Breastfed)
The Knife - Silent Shout (Williams Acidic Circuits Mix)” (Rabid)
Def Inc. - “Waking the Dread (Switch Remix)” (Spin Out)
Tiga - “(Far from) Home” (all of then) (Different)
Andrea Paganin - “Kill Yourself (Acid Perverse Mix)” (Glanzbild)
James Mowbray & D. Ramirez - “Choose Anger (H-Man Remix)” (Four -Twenty)
Nathan Fake - “Charlie's House (Apparat Remix)” (Border Community)
Chikinki - “Assassinator 13 (Ruede Hagelstein Ride on Take off Mix)” (Kitty Cuts)
Sebastien Tellier - “Broadway (Chicken Lips Mix)” (Lucky Number)
Trike - “Talk Back (Serge Santiago Remix)” (Gigolo)
Lindstrøm - “I Feel Space (Freeform Five Remix)” (Playhouse)

JoB (JoB), Friday, 24 March 2006 19:57 (twenty years ago)

job, i was with for a while there...but the freeform five remix of 'i feel space' is painful! i hereby issue a moratorium on all further remixes of that tune!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 March 2006 19:59 (twenty years ago)

er, i meant 'i was with you for a while there' -- sorry, i've been sick all week and i'm a little out of it!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 March 2006 20:00 (twenty years ago)

think the freeform five mix of "I Feel Space" is perfectly fine. sounds nothing like the original and I don't like it much, but not painful by any means, and the tiefschwarz one is quite good I think.

my favourite remixes so far this year are probably

Konrad Black's mix of "Zombie Party" by Hiem, and his mix of "Mandarine Girl" to a lesser extent.
Akabu-Future Bound (Ame Remix)
Alison Marks-Rothschilds Violin (Anja Schneider Mix)
Sebo K and Anja Schneider-Rancho Relaxo (Jennifer Cardini and Shonky's Eiffel Tower Mix)
Tiga-Far From Home (Digitalism Mix)

None of the above are really absolutely godlike genius though, I think I have probably liked more original records than remixes this year, unless I'm forgetting a whole heap of stuff. This is probably a consequence of non minimal electrohouse's rapid decline/the similarly rapid ascent of minimal.

And I prefer the Todd Terje remix of Snuten to the Prins Thomas one, though I do like both.

Oh and Tim should check out http://www.discogs.com/release/592804!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Ooh more Reverso 68!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Cameron Octigan (Cameron Octigan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 01:01 (twenty years ago)

dada life - big time (linus loves remix)

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 9 April 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

Robyn - "Crash and Burn Girl (Jesper Dahlbäck Remix)" (Konichiwa) a great moment when the vocal comes in
Rihanna - "SOS (Nevins Future Retro Club Mix)" (SRP/Def Jam) bigger and better
Chaton + Hopen - "It is Cut (Agnès Deeptroit Rebuild)" (Plak) swiss weirdness
Lindstrøm - "Another Station (Todd Terje Remix)" (Feedelity) the version you can dance to
Pier Bucci - "L Nuit (Dominik Eulberg Remix)" (Crosstown Rebels) devastating
Mark & John - "Jagging (Tony Senghore Remix)" (Pickadoll) tony's back!

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 9 April 2006 10:38 (twenty years ago)

Like the Erol/Hot Chip but kinda indie.

Favourites, now that I've been thinking....

Colder-To The Music (Engel Mix)-For anyone who liked the Highfish mix of the Psychonauts from Superpitcher's "Today", Engel is Highfish, this is great Underworld type electrohouse.

Also Goldfrapp-Ride A White Horse-Serge Santiago Mix

If the Chemical Brothers were the Campical Brothers....

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 9 April 2006 22:31 (twenty years ago)

What's up with: David Banner and Twista 'On Everything'(Radioclit remix)! Anyone heard this? Any good? Where o Where can I find this???

Jewster, Monday, 10 April 2006 04:56 (twenty years ago)

*Both* the Serge Santiago and Ewan Pearson mixes of Ride a White Horse
Hot Chip: Just Like We (DFA remix)
Lindstrom: Another Station (Todd Terje remix)

jeffery (jeffery), Monday, 10 April 2006 05:09 (twenty years ago)

yup, that serge santiago remix rules.

i can't believe i initially passed over the todd terje mix of 'another station'. i was fortunate enough to be given it last year and initially totally dismissed it when in actual fact it owns!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 10 April 2006 05:36 (twenty years ago)

wtf didn't they put the santiago and pearson mixes of 'ride a white horse' on the one 12" and the fk ones on another? I wouldn't have had to get both then!

haitch (haitch), Monday, 10 April 2006 05:45 (twenty years ago)

yeah otm about "another station", I bought it when the promos came out late last year I think, and though I loved the original I don't think I discovered the Terje one till it's proper release in the last few weeks.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 10 April 2006 11:01 (twenty years ago)

the YSI threads kind of killed the popularity of these remix threads.

let's keep them bouncing.

piscesboy (piscesboy), Monday, 17 April 2006 13:51 (twenty years ago)

alexander robotnick, 'dark side of the spoon' (lindstrom + prins thomas remix)!!

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 17 April 2006 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Forgot these before, so it's YMCK again. Magnaroid's remix of 'Milky Blue' is chiptune-techno going nova (bosh, bosh, bosh) and Akira Suzuki's mix of 'Kira' is awesomely retro aciiiieed bounce. I hate that this stuff is so hard to find.

One of the few worthwhile mixes from Beck's Guerolito finds John King of the Dust Brothers "doing a Diplo" on 'Rental Car' - nice and undemanding twitchy electro.

Linus Loves' mix of Flat Pack's Guns 'N' Roses cover is pretty cute, though it's not as sweet, breezy and confident as his mix of Rekindle's 'Ice Skating Girl' from 2004 or 5, which is in the same ballpark.

While not his finest hour, Rex's take on Royksopp's 'Beautiful Day...' has enough future-retro bleeps and keys to hold my interest. "Grower", maybe?

Falke & Braxe's stadium rockin' mix of the Test-Icicles should be subtitled "In The Mood For Moroder".

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Mariah Carey - "Say Somethin' (David Morales Stereo Anthem Mix)" craps all over the original's lazy Neptunes production. But the shorter Morales Radio Edit is even more awesome.

danzig (danzig), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

My single of '06 (so far) is Maurice Joshua's remix of Missy's "Teary Eyed" - nothing necessarily mind-blowing, just ace top-marks cushy quality house music.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

OK but 6/6/6 was yesterday. A couple of mainstream house boob jobs, in a row?

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 8 June 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

nothing necessarily mind-blowing, just ace top-marks cushy quality house music

see also: Maurice Joshua's remix of Beyonce's "Check On It". (his Christina Milian remix is a mess tho)

i don't like that Morales thing, but Jermaine Dupri's take on "Say Somethin" is awesome!

pisces (piscesx), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

would the lack of YSI be contributing to the seeming lack perhaps?

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

riton 'angerman (riton re-rub)'
riton vs erol alkan 'squaque eyes'

maybe - MAYBE - best 12" I've bought this year.

lift up fong and see (haitch), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

the ysi thread was the best (and worst) mp3 blog that ever existed. i wasn't sure i was even going to keep posting to ilm when it went away, but alas...

i do think that its absence has killed a bit of the remix interest/discussion amongst people here though.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 21:05 (nineteen years ago)

im so out of touch with the newest DFA mixes now ;(

i like Auto-Repeat: Auto Disco (Soundhack Remix), Depeche Mode: The Darkest Star (Holden Dub) and the Lindstrøm/Terje thing

ferzaffe (flezaffe), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

for me the best is still radio slave's remix of chelonis r jone's "deer in the headlights".... untoppable.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

is blackstrobe's nitzer ebb remix any chop?

finest quality internets beef (haitch), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

i wasn't sure i was even going to keep posting to ilm when it went away, but alas...

someone did set up an alternate board purely for YSI links but nobody seems that keen on it.

i still like the mp3 blog idea (set one up, give various people access to it, people can request stuff in comments).

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

Okay-, obviously lots of talk, but really: the Villalobos "I Owe You" remix is one of the more gorgeous tracks of recent.

trees (treesessplode), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 04:31 (nineteen years ago)

Al Usher's remix of Grandadbob's 'Hide Me' is simply one of the best things he's ever done - totally boogie romantic.

Headspin (Barima), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

Water Lily - Dissidance (Tomas Andersson mix)
Modern Heads - Treatment 1 (Donato Dozzy version)
Giorgio Gigli - Rarefied Atmosphere (Lee Van Dowski mix)
Marco Bailey - Bollocks (Gabriel Ananda mix)

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

SPIDER AND BIRD

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 23 July 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

oh yeah, crowdpleaser's mix of undo's "rodeo"..... mental.
am i the only one that things villalobos' "i owe you" remix feels slight and tossed-off?

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 23 July 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

not a huge fan of the I Owe You refit - nice for a few minutes, but keep expecting it to do something. then it doesn't.

even if it only exists on his hard disk: Depeche Mode - The Sinner In Me (Ricardo Villalobos Remix)

a (rslvd), Sunday, 23 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

am i the only one that things villalobos' "i owe you" remix feels slight and tossed-off?

I guess not, Philip, but... I think it improves vastly on the original, simply because its repetitions allow it to breathe and grow in a way that the original does not. Not that the original is chopped liver or anything-- it's fucking great.

What I want to talk about is how utterly bland Isolee's remix of "What You Say..." is. It is truly teh suck.

trees (treesessplode), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

where is this available?? from the bit i heard on some mix cd or other, it is HARDLY teh suck!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

?

a (rslvd), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

It also was available on TAPE for a while.

trees (treesessplode), Sunday, 23 July 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

Here is what TAPE said:
Originally appearing as an exclusive track on Playhouse's Famous When Dead III compilation, Isolee's mix of one of Ricardo's landmark tracks does the difficult job of bettering the fantastic original, toughening it up, turning it on it's head, and kicking it up its arse. Essential stuff, but you're probably better off buying the Playhouse triple LP for value for other great tracks from Losoul, Thomas Melchior and Roman Flugel.

It does not better the original-- if anything, it makes it more flaccid, less interesting. It also seems quite lazy, as much of the track is taken up by the same vocal loop endlessly playing, which would be fine if any changes came in-- but they don't. I really wanted to like it, too.

trees (treesessplode), Sunday, 23 July 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

the isolee mix is deffo not teh suck. sounds awesome out.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 23 July 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

otm.

did anyone mention flugel's "my bleep" remix above? more monolithic forcefully repetetive dub electro house please.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 23 July 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

from the bit i heard on some mix cd or other

Boogy Bytes 2 perchance?

that great bit near the end where it dips, slows down and goes "vrooooooooooooooooom" then comes BANG right back (terrible description sorry) hmmm... that doesn't suck.

fandango (fandango), Sunday, 23 July 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

it starts the isolee breezeblock as well, where it REALLY works

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 23 July 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

Wow I thought the Isolee remix of "What You Say..." was brilliant. And the original is not really a favourite of mine, I don't tend to like Villalobos in that ultra dry style.

And "I Owe You" is one of my absolute favourite Isolee tracks, those stabs are insane.

I do very much like the Villalobos remix of it too though, but its delights are as, um, concentrated as on the original.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 23 July 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

Meant to say its delights aren't as concentrated as the original.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 23 July 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

I think that maybe I need to be schooled or something, because all I could hear in the Isolee remix was sort of Mr. Bland and 'this is good to play out'....which means a great deal, admittedly. I guess that I don't diss it for its merits as a track that gets people going, but more because the original sounds so much more elegant and refined, composed... Perhaps my expectations were too high?

Tim, OTM. Its delights aren't as concentrated. But who wants concentrate ALL the time?

trees (treesessplode), Monday, 24 July 2006 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

the villalobos remix of "i owe you" is one of my favorites from this summer if not the year. and then there those glimmers edits.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Monday, 24 July 2006 04:45 (nineteen years ago)

oh yes, 'lost (and stripped by the glimmers)'! what a bassline.

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 24 July 2006 04:58 (nineteen years ago)

"Tim, OTM. Its delights aren't as concentrated. But who wants concentrate ALL the time?"

I'm not dissing it really! I'm praising with faint damnation. The fact that as a remix it falls slightly short of the track it's remixing shouldn't be seen as a slight when the original is one of the absolute best things Isolee has done. And I agree that what makes the remix work is its slightly distracted drifty reverie, although (as per "Ichso" etc.) the drift is centered on the melodies rather than clumped in dried flakes of itchy rhythm psoriosis.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 24 July 2006 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

'dried flakes of itchy rhythm psoriasis' = eww!

CHEATED HEARTS - yeah yeah yeahs (peaches remix) is as pefrect a blending of cool indie with electro as i've ever heard. it helps that these days essentially all i want from an indie remix is for it to be sped up and have beats added.

are there any good other peaches remixes out there? i never fancied her as much of a producer/mixer but that just goes to show you!

I didn't like that para one mix of 'prime time'... then I heard it out. oh yes.

new bit of space-disco awesomeness: the glimmers, 'time 4 action' (padded cell remix)!!!

genital hyphys (haitch), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

get myself into it - the rapture (serge santiago mix)

nothing too radical just gently polished, tweaked, made warmer sounding and slightly disco-fied. just perfect.

pisces (piscesx), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

that new coldcut single 'walk a mile' is pretty awful, robert owens' vocal aside. BUT the henrik schwarz (10 minutes of deep house w/ strings) and tiga (ravey!) remixes are fantastic.

genital hyphys (haitch), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
For the past two months, I can't seem to stop listening to "Klaxons vs. Hadouken" which may alternately be called: Klaxons - "Atlantic to Interzon (Hadouken remix)" or something similar. It adds a whole rap and lots of great rave and grime sounds and beats and it's just the most incredible thing I've heard all year. Unfortunately, it's no longer on the Hadouken myspace page. Does anyone know where to get (I'm assuming white label) this? I'll pay extra for you to ship it to LA!!!

I.M. From Hollywood (i_m_from_hollywood), Thursday, 28 September 2006 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

there's probably plenty more but these are off the top of my head.
