Kevin Pearce has stopped writing for "Tangents".

In his articles for "Tangents" Kevin Pearce has uncovered connections between lots of forgotten musical figures and he has traced musical lineages in a very individual way. He has written in a stylish and illuminating manner about post-punk, soul, reggae and lots of other music. He has placed music from the past in its historical context, but he has also strived to make it seem relevant to today. I hope he will return to writing about music soon.

What does everyone else think about Kevin Pearce's articles?

Took a look at his farewell article. There's a lesson there for everyone. That is: Don't read a book written by anyone associated with the KLF.

forgive any ignorance ... what is tangents and where can we read it?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that www.tangents.co.uk is the address. "Tangents" is an internet magazine about music, art and books.

fuck me we will miss him

Kevin's passion and constant self-questioning are part of what makes him into such a vital writer in the first place. If he didn't worry about motivation or desire, he wouldn't have been worth reading. It's ironic that the only critics liable to behave in such a way - suddenly deciding to retire, almost arbitrarily - are the ones who really don't need to: it's the rest of them who should.

Yes. I will miss his writings.

I hope he'll continue to write something or somewhere: maybe we'll get a Kevin Pearce novel one day... Kevin's book "Something Beginning With O" remains my favourite ever book on pop and it's a great shame that it's so difficult to find.

Tangents' best writer, and that's no insult to any of the other ones. One day I want to read "Something Beginning With O", especially after Tim H told me I wouldn't like it.

One of my favourite books too, not least because my mum had to phone up and order it. 'It's for my son,' said my mum. 'I know,' said Heavenly employee.

He doesn't actually *say* he's never going to write again in that piece, does he? Besides, context is everything, and Tangents writers have a habit of announcing their retirement and then coming back three months later. AF's Shoppies and Shopping articles were better than KP's article this week, I thought.

I haven't read much of his work, but everything I have read I remember being influenced by, subconsciously or otherwise. So he must be classic.

He made the Broadcast / Pentangle comparison, yes? That in itself is ultra-classic.

eleven years pass...

He also now seems to have stopped Yr Heart Out. Does anyone know what he is up to these days?

I'm sure he does the odd piece for Caught By The River.
