The Kraftwerk-N.W.A connection?

On the sleeve notes of Kraftwerk's Trans-Europe Express album (partly recorded at The Record Plant in Hollywood) one of the people given "special thanks" is called Jerry Heller. This was also the name of N.W.A's infamous manager. Is it the same guy? What does it mean? We've missed out on Straight Outta Düsseldorf, I guess...

Did anyone see that Louis Theroux program last night which focused on Ann Widdecombe MP? Her secretary used to manage Blondie, the Ramones,... What the FUCK! :-)

nathalie, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That was great, Todd. Now how about NWA doing "Showroom Dummies"?

Curt, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We are standing here
Exposing our lyrics
We are showroom gangstas
We are showroom gangstas

We're being watched
and we feel the motherfucking feds
We are showroom gangstas
We are showroom gangstas

We look around
and keep it real
We are showroom gangstas
We are showroom gangstas

We start to move
And we break your face
We are showroom gangstas
We are showroom gangstas

We step out
And drive around through Compton
We are showroom gangstas
We are showroom gangstas

We go into a club
And there we start to rap
We are showroom gangstas
We are showroom gangstas.

I started to write:

I program my home computer
Beam myself into tha muthafuckin' future

Then I realised that I was basically replicating the kind of thing Derrick May used to say in interviews in 1990.

Jerry Heller was about 20 years into the biz when he started Ruthless Records. Although NWA/Ruthless was probably his largest claim to fame, he had represented quite a few artists from a wide array of genres from the mid-60s on.

i'd like to be her pimp that's understood
she sucks the glass dick from time to time
it only takes a nickelbag to change her mind

According to some writer I can't remember (David Toop?), Kraftwerk really dug "Planet Rock" and other early hip hop tracks. Don't know how they feel about it now.
