Has Boomkat done a bunk, or are have they just got the hump with me? I didn't get my Newsletter this week and can't seem to access the site... Please come back!

Leeroy, Sunday, 29 January 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

here is a recap of their newsletter, 'everything released this week is killer'

keyth (keyth), Sunday, 29 January 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

they got murked inna ninja stylee when they beefed with Aquarius Records.

ziti sanskrit (sanskrit), Sunday, 29 January 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

keyth OTM!

I'll never forget the first time I read the newsletter and I was thinking - wow look at all this fantastic stuff - it was only when I actually bought something that I realised that they can be..er...slightly overenthusiastic.

Lovely people though. Love the shop in Manchester and hope this is just an net problem.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Sunday, 29 January 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe Boomkat is relaunching to cater for the NME market to sell Arctic Monkeys and The Ordinary Boys CDs ?

It's The Arctic Monkeys: "The fastest selling British debut album of all time" = there is no demand this week for obscure music on small labels.

Big Brother Mad Britain has suggested a nation of plebs craving Ordinary Boys albums.

PR guru Max Clifford maybe wants Preston to record with Chantelle. It will be the biggest thing since Kylie and Nick Cave.

Maybe the website is being redesigned this weekend to reflect mod-dumb Britain?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 29 January 2006 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

this week i got 3 (three) copies of boomkat newsletter so i suppose one of them is yours, leeroy

nique (nique), Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

i claim the other one !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

why, i can forward you both, if you still need it.

nique (nique), Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

my copy of the newsletter turned up in my spam folder (doesn't normally) so that may explain it.

simon 803 (simon 803), Monday, 30 January 2006 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

i got two sent as well.....shows up every friday, right? I just forwarded it to you.

pher (pher), Monday, 30 January 2006 05:24 (nineteen years ago)

I can't access their website anymore :-(

stevo (stevo), Monday, 30 January 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

I prefer http://www.juno.co.uk/

Boomkat never seems to give samples of all the tracks.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 30 January 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

let me think of something crunk to say

navy, Monday, 30 January 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

please to explain beef with Aquarius, details of sonning included.

army, Monday, 30 January 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

I hope it comes back soon...

Gringo, Monday, 30 January 2006 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

It's back. Server problems - funnily enough I got a message from Rough Trade saying the same thing.

I'm glas to see there are some totally indespensible albums coming out this week...phew...

Ned T.RIfle II (Ned T.Rifle II), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, seconding the request to explain what happened with Aquarius.

jacderida (jacderida), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

What's all this about Aquarius? Is there a Boomkat BEEF?!

Gringo, Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Is DJ Martian ever going to start doing his weekly round-up of their newsletter again?! Trawling through it all makes my head hurt...

Leeroy, Sunday, 5 February 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

is boomkat dead?

Codename: Paul Scholes (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 February 2006 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
busted.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 3 March 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

I was wondering where Trike had got to...

last post ever (fandango), Friday, 3 March 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

Ha! I bet they're well 'ard too. We're doomed!

leeroy, Friday, 3 March 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

WHERE'S THE BEEF?

Mestema (davidcorp), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

If i was boomkat I'd search their files and debit £250 from anyone on here who's shopped with them in the past. then you'd stop moaning.

Shakin' Stevens, Friday, 3 March 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get all the agro boomkat attracts; it's a fucking fantastic site where the people who run it have a deep love of music. If you don't like it, use HMV and see how shit bigger sites are.

Doodlebug, Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

boomkat is great. i have bought from them every week for years. i think the issue is that they sometimes get a little over excited in their descriptions of records with everything being deemed 'killer'. on odd occasions i have been caught up in their excitement, purcased a record and been a little disappointed. but, i have also bought countless wonderful records from them i wouldn't have ever known about otherwise.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 5 March 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

well well well; http://www.boomkat.com/article.cfm?id=2

fucking great mix
well written
not a killer!! in site

i'm impressed

Leeroy, Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

yep, that's a great start indeed.

two thumbs up! :)

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

nice

Doodlebug, Wednesday, 8 March 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

one thing i always think about boomkat is i would like it if they put tracklistings for the records they sell. otherwise i pretty much like em. i spend a lot of money with them at any rate...sometimes their flash media player things fucks up a bit but its quite nice. i dont really have any problems with them. pelicanneck was a nice place to go everytime i went there, albeit i havent been for a long long time

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

It's nice to see someone trying something a bit different. My only reservation is the double row of releases on the right, maybe just one would be better. Other than that it's a winner.

Shakin' Stevens, Wednesday, 8 March 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the thin column is a bit tough to read but it all opens up at the end. This Skream lad passed me by but I'm going to invest in a 12 i think.

leeroy, Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

man, they know their stuff. that the best proper article i ever read on dubstep.

Bwop, Sunday, 12 March 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

i think they need to change their web host

leeroy, Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Another article. It's the Buddha Machine this one: http://www.boomkat.com/article.cfm?id=3

REALLY good me thinks.

leeroy, Tuesday, 21 March 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

They're doing the music for the Olympics!

Shakin' Stevens, Wednesday, 22 March 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Should I buy one of these Buddha Machines then? The article makes them sound great but it looks like a waste of money to me.

Marlon Dando, Sunday, 26 March 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for the help gay-boys.

Marlon Dando, Monday, 27 March 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

and thank you for the lame, pointless put-down!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 27 March 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

um that skream article was quite well written but most of it was just interesting waffleness - i mean the thing about dubstep artists having the letter k in their name? HUH?

alias, Monday, 27 March 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

So, it seems that whoever wrote this blurb has no idea who Suicide are but is faking it nonetheless. Cute!

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 30 March 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

Krautrock. Hmm. Fact checker, stat!

Thought the samples sounded quite good though.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Thursday, 30 March 2006 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

That and "their album Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne." But yeah, it's a pretty neat-sounding release.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 30 March 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, right, I didn't read that far.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Thursday, 30 March 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i don't pay much attention to boomkat. i prefer the pithy, minimalist hard wax website for info on releases: "warm chordish trippin' club anthem b/w bleepin' 909 driven techno tunes - TIP!"

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 30 March 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

five years pass...

Haha. Awesome!

Tevez Sr. (admrl), Thursday, 27 October 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

caretaker?

jed_, Thursday, 27 October 2011 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

It's a fun idea, but an infuriatingly high price.

only NWOFHM! is real (krakow), Thursday, 27 October 2011 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

I enjoy seeing all the stuff in the Boomkat weekly newsletter, but the sheer extent of it is a bit oppressive

not bulimic, just a cat (James Morrison), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:09 (thirteen years ago)

You should try working through the Juno newsletter every week!

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 28 October 2011 09:10 (thirteen years ago)

Would lol so hard if Untitled 01 turned out to be...

Lars and the Lulu Girl (NickB), Friday, 28 October 2011 09:23 (thirteen years ago)

it says its sold out. Did anyone take a punt on it? £17 seems a lot though if it's good or by someone famous it could sell for shitloads on ebay.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 28 October 2011 09:32 (thirteen years ago)

some boats related artist was my guess (given they have a release with a similar cardboard aesthetic on the same page and moteer have done v limited 3" singles and beermats and stuff in the past)

have just received a couple of creel pone releases from boomkat and they are quite lovely - tiny replicas of the original lps sleeves, pressed on black cd(r)s. sound like they were mastered from the vinyl too.

koogs, Friday, 28 October 2011 11:56 (thirteen years ago)

i said "fuck it" and went for it. snippets sounded caretaker-ish, if it sucks at least i can probably reap some ebay benefits at a later date. unless it's keane.

omar little, Friday, 28 October 2011 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

I was looking for any discussion of this after buying it last week and have found myself here. I got it yesterday and had a listen last night, it reminds me of the time I fell asleep with a Buddha box on the slowest settings and dreamt static. I doubt that is helpful to anyone but I'd say the chances of it being Keane are pretty slim.

stx, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 10:34 (thirteen years ago)

Keane will make you fall asleep too though, so there's that.

I'm surprised the artist behind this hasn't been uncovered yet tbh. I didn't order the item but the photographs of the artwork remind me of the Mobeer releases (Declining Winter, Aron Martin, Part Timer etc.)

The Norman Records sale is fairly good:

http://www.normanrecords.com/reduced

(although if searching by name you have to click through to the final product to see the price, rather than the search page).

djh, Monday, 2 September 2013 20:13 (eleven years ago)

Was the identity of that CD ever revealed and/or was it any good?

djh, Monday, 2 September 2013 20:14 (eleven years ago)

Thanks for the heads up on the Norman sale, purchased and waiting for;

Gudrun Gut - I Put A Record On. - I've a couple of her singles from this period so nice to have the album, I want her most recent one too.
Kit Clayton - Live on Shortwave Radio. - had a punt on this one, I really like the ~scape album, which this predates.
Static - Flavour Has No Name. - The track with Ronald Lippok on vocal is cool.
Benjamin Brunn - Konig Und Drache - this sounds really sweet, a bit like the more recent Move D collab.

£12 including postage. Not bad.

mmmm, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 15:34 (eleven years ago)

The Static album also appears every year in the Boomkat sale but is much better than the three quid or so price would suggest, particularly the Lippok track.

djh, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 21:20 (eleven years ago)

one year passes...

As recently posted on the wrong thread ...

8 years pass...

The Norman Records sale is on for the next hour. It's a bit of a slog but there are albums by Cavil, Gnac, Mark Tranmer, James Yorkston, British Sea Power, Iron Henry, Pop Ambient 2011, Porn Sword Tobacco, Hauschka, King Creosote ... around the £2-£3 mark.

Reasonable sale on at Bleep, at the moment.

Strangely, I've only just noticed this thread wasn't about Boomkat the record shop ... ah well.
