Band ID: British indie circa 1999

Can anyone tell me the name of a band I can't remember: They were a not-too-special UK indie band from around 1999 with the usual influences like sonic youth, they weren't Seafood, I think they were in some NME tour were they got in a fight with another band and their singer looked like Indian with James Iha hair.
