ive tried, ive listened to them carefully over the years,i really did, i swear...

1.the stone roses - s.t. - nice album.but thats it.
2.my bloody valentine - loveless - ok,the production, the layers of guitars, the brian eno ideas, but the result is so messed up. nice album though.
2.sufjan stevens - illinois. maybe someday ill find out whay.still trying.

so can someone open my eyes to the holy truth that im so blind to see ans explain the mystery?

yr turn.what are yr 3 albums?

gregorrr, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

THose three are good starts. My dad likes all three of 'em. Maybe I will when I'm older.

js (honestengine), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:00 (twenty years ago)

1. S.F.Sorrow - The Pretty Things
2. Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
3. Gideon Gaye - The High Llamas

3 mainly for the last track that never finishes, changes or does SOMETHING!!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:04 (twenty years ago)

"dire straits" and "classic" was always a contradiction. are you serious?

mamama, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:14 (twenty years ago)

I went to someone's house party, back in the day, and they'd just got it on cassette. Basically, it went "So far away" which was OK, but then it just dragged onnnnnnnn and onnnnnnn, then the autoturner played side two and onnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnn it went, until side one came back on, and "So far away" came on again, and although it was nice enough that one, it now meant "hey let's just leave it on, we don't need another record IN OUT LIFE FROM NOW ON!!!" Aand I could not LEAVE as someone ELSE DROVE THERE and besides some of the people were quite nice in a 'I might like you' kind of way, but then I found out it was all a waste of time, and then I woke up! And found I wasn;t aslEEP AND I WAS ACTUallly still there, and "So far away" had just started again and everyone SMILEDAH! because the lovely record was to be played ONCE MORE at the very least!

"1.the stone roses - s.t. - nice album.but thats it."

OTM

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

The Stone Roses wins this hands down

Dadaismus PBUH (Dada), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Neil Young - After the Gold Rush -- a few great songs surrounded by a lot of drivel

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Nas - Illmatic -- I just don't hear it

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

2 more:

can - tago mago. - way too much repetitive.too much african drum bit.

suicide - s.t. - way too much static.though i dig the reasons it is considered "an importend record".

gregorrr, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Can - Future Days

Dadaismus PBUH (Dada), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Um . . . Nevermind, anyone?

(ducks)

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Arthur Russell - World of Echo

Dadaismus PBUH (Dada), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:47 (twenty years ago)

funny, i hadn't really listened to "brothers in arms" since my father bought in when i was a kid so i hadn't noticed it could almost be a dylan late 70s/80s album !
still, i don't really like it. not bad but boring.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Just about any David Bowie "classic" album fits the bill for me. So, pick any three Bowie records you think are "classic," and I'll fit them on my list.

James, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:51 (twenty years ago)

(I realise that "most people" don't consider "Future Days" and "World of Echo" as classics because most people haven't heard (of) them)

Dadaismus PBUH (Dada), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

well, considering british all time classic albums lists, there are 2 others to compete with stone roses :

oasis - definitely maybe
radiohead - ok computer

i like some tracks on both but even these tracks are far from classic to me. just sort of ok...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

1. Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon
2. Pink Floyd, The Wall
3. The Eagles, Greatest Hits

Sorry, I just don't get them.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

elvis presley.50's classic for sure, but for nowadays..

about david bowie - agree, except for "hunky dory" ahich i adore.

about fleetwood mac - tusk - a classic for me, if you take out 90% of the non-lindsey buckingham songs.

and i hate every "pink floyd" album, except "piper".

gregorrr, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

this is about as bad as the "feel free to blaspheme" thread. oooooh, take that pink floyd!

ZR (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Lou Reed - The Blue Mask

Although I wish there was a sans vocals version floating around out there...I sure do love them guitars.

re Tusk: I'm a sucker for stevie's beautiful child.

moxie alv., Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:30 (twenty years ago)

"feel free to blaspheme" : i quite enjoyed that thread. especially the fact that one of the only person who succeed to get a "oh, that's bad what you just said" reaction was... Geir !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:31 (twenty years ago)

I DONT LIKE 'BE HERE NOW' : o

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

lovely Rita, meter maid.

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 20:24 (twenty years ago)

-dark side of the moon (the most overrated album of all time)
-nevermind (for sure)
-exile on main str.

this is actually a very interesting topic. Albums take on a mythical status and no one dares to say they are shit. People always ask themselves: "Whats' wrong with me?". Hmmm...interesting indeed...

arnart1802, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:11 (twenty years ago)
