I just got a new computer and I am trying to use WMP as my main mp3 program with great hesitation. ANy comparison to itunes? The search feature seems pretty useful. But can I not save playlists after I burn a cd with it?

use winamp instead, it has better controls and a better library management tool, I think. although WMP is fine for video, in my experience.

There are some good points of WMP10 compared with iTunes:
- it does other video formats than just Quicktime
- it does other audio formats than just wav, mp3 and aac (like ogg/flac/wma/he-aac) with plugins
- it can monitor folders and automatically add new files to the library whenever they're added to those folder
- it can sort by filename
- it can sync with pretty much every portable player on the market and not only with iPods
- it is quicker/more responsive
- docking in the taskbar is quite nifty

On the other hand, iTunes is easier, looks better, and has great podcast support. And if you hate Microsoft, using it gives you a comfortable fuzzy feeling. I still prefer Winamp over both (mainly because of the shoutcast plugin). At this point all these player are actually quite similar if you look at the basics (player + library + playlists).

I actually find WMP sounding better -- more bass, for one thing -- than iTunes.

Just use Foobar 2000 and forget about the rest, it really is the best player out there. It does have a steep learning curve but well worth it by the end.

For video, search out 'Media Player Classic'.

I use Winamp, but I'm a geek who like to sort albums in folders by hand...

Help! I'm a Mac person forced to use this awful thing over xmas break. How the bleep do I view the contents of an mp3 DVD in the order in which I burned the songs? That is, when I click on the DVD in Library, WMP gives me 'Primary Views' and 'Additional Views' (e.g., genre, artist, etc.). But it doesn't give me the option of viewing/playing the songs on it in order, MY order.

Help? grrrrr $%^&*($%^&*(^%#$%^&@#$%

Without Curves, I would feel deflated. I like Curves. They are best. (Stevie D), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

Just number the tracks then play them in numerical order.

Srsly WMP is a bit shit at times but all the other players I've tried are a bit shit and ugly and a ballache.

O™ (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 23 December 2009 12:36 (sixteen years ago)

They already are numbered. And I ain't renumbering 500+ tracks even if I knew how.

I suspected 'download iTunes' would be the kind of (wise) advice I received here. Thanx all. :)

So PCs...those are still around, huh?

Mac user smugness still around, huh? gtfo troll.

ps. remember when installing iTunes not to scramble your friends music collection with "let iTunes organise my.." option! You won't be thanked lol.

two years pass...

I always tag whatever mp3s I have on my computer. Waste of time, I know, but I've spent countless hours making sure that every file (approx. 4500 songs) has the proper cover art. When I look at a music file on my screen, I like to look at cover art.

Last night, in the midst of other craziness brought on by one of those innocuous-looking software downloads (codec-something--ended up having to do a system recovery), about 90% of my mp3s lost their cover art. It's all still there when I look at Media Player, and it's still there looking at the Mp3tag index. Looking at the actual mp3 icons inside the music folder, gone.

What in the hell happened?

one year passes...

Due to laziness and wanting the cover art to pop up in my mp3 player i've been using WMP to rip CDs. Last night it decided to rip my copy of the Small Faces' "Best of the Immediate Years" to two different main directories (Small Faces and The Small Faces), with multiple folders named after various Small Faces albums in each, also renumbering the files randomly. What the fucking fuck? I don't expect an answer, I'm just howling at the void.

Trying to burn a compilation onto a Sony CD-R 700 MB.

Windows Media Player thinks that should hold 80 mins of music but upon trying to burn the CD, it seems to only be able to fit 69 or so minutes.

Hasn't happened before. Any ideas?
