Definitely not the Luciano you're probably used to, but it definitely has its moments.

youth problem (YouthProblem), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:04 (twenty years ago)

I'm listening to his spacious remix of Isolee's 'Cite Grande Terre' and again ask myself: why couldn't Blind Behaviour be like this?!?

five months pass...
Live @ Weetamix? Holy SHIT!! And to think I only got round to hearing it now (two years after being recommeded it the first time and passing it up. Lesson: listen to Berlin record shop staff!).

I mean it's micro/minimal-house with ZERO stiff/awkward-ness (not that it's automatically a bad thing, I like awkward techno & awkward house too if it can be made to bump in perverseness of it's (teutonic) non-funkiness). Not a single damn second here feels dancefloor unfriendly. 50 minutes pass in no time at all, it's so totally fresh & absorbing & inventive in a subtly-packed way (repeat listens keep on surprising me).

Also, it comes across to my ears (admittedly I'm a bit short of knowledge in this area) as sharing A LOT (improving upon? missing link?) with the *idea* of all that latin-sambaesque techno that seemed to be the preserve of all the post-Mills crowd but which I never quite managed to find a good mix of (The Exhibitionist wasn't really up to the job of showcasing it except in fits & starts). Except where a lot of that got a bit too willing to fire on all drummachine chambers to attempt to mimic those kind of organically-derived-but-relentless rhythms it was taking inspiration from (a bit heavy-handed basically) this has an impossibly deft and light touch, but it's in no way ineffectual or tame. I just wish it had crowd noise so I could call it the "Live @ Liquid Rooms, Tokyo" of microhouse! Maybe I will... in secret ;) I'm kind of astonished this isn't in the "ILM canon" for this sort of thing (Is it? I probably missed the memo). I know people rate Luciano a great deal but I had no idea this was such an complete masterpiece.

...and Sci-Fi Hi-Fi would be fantastic (it's still pretty amazing & genuinely deep feeling & different overall) if it didn't have those few-track plods between all the good bits at slightly too regular intervals. Unfortunately it does have them so I can't help feeling that this shits on it (from a modest height). Apples & Oranges perhaps but yeah. Quite amazed by this disc.

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

I think the Live @ Weetamix mix is in the canon for everyone who has heard it, but it's pretty hard to track down I think. I only found it by total chance.

I like Sci-Fi Hi-Fi, but it's a bit slow to get going... improves massively once the track numbering hits double figures.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

Sci-Fi Hi-Fi vs Weetamix is apples & oranges indeed, but i can hardly believe Blind Behaviour and Weetamix are by the same dude

listening to the whole thing now. pretty great.

if I worked on a cop show, I'd push to get "behind my soul" on the soundtrack.

original bgm, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

last track really reminds me of the last track on achso. not a bad thing.

original bgm, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:35 (sixteen years ago)

Tonight I Dine on Turtle Soup (EDB), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

Tonight I Dine on Turtle Soup (EDB), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:22 (sixteen years ago)
