so far, a big disappointment.

i've been waiting for this thing to drop for three months. i realize its only a proof of concept, but based on the version they made available today, it's going to be at least another six months before songbird can even think about taking on the likes of itunes, foobar, winamp, et al.

Eh, there's been a lot of blog hype for a while. The team looks good, the technology looks good, but it seemed a little sluggish and the interface gets a little cluttered when the web browser takes over the middle pane. It was also eating my processor on any site with flash and I would imagine it lacks the ability to use things like adblock.

I might just be bitter because I can't access about half the music sales sites that it preloads from work. I'll play with it at home some more. Couldn't we have a thread title that at least mentions the word "songbird" though?

one year passes...

Couldn't do anything with it at the time; it couldn't handle my library.
One year later, the site looks MUCH better and I'm retrying this. If it does what the tech demo video says it can, this may be really big after all.

1.0 launched today and i'm very happy with it.
Not a finished product yet, but totally in the right direction.
