What's your favorite dog song ?
Man's best friend would be a dog. And music too i reckon. Although music never wagged its tail by seeing me, let alone getting a wet lick from it. But songs about dogs are always kinda special. I don't know what does the trick.
The vivid reactions to rintintin on the silver screen were unprecedented in the silent era. In hollywood they know it. Dogs do the trick. Much more then people. An audience can watch an army being slain, but to harm a dog ? Many respond very emotionally. And in songs dogs have made a fairly good subjects too i think.
here are some of my favs:
'pepe hush' Leo Kottke
'Fido, your leash is too long' Magnetic fields
'I love my dog' Cat Stevens
'Come a little dog' Palace Music
'i buyed me a little dog' Dave Van Ronk
'Wild pack of family dogs' Modest Mouse

There do indeed seem to be quite a lot of terrific dog-related songs.
My oldest friend, a generally intelligent man, adores Me And You And
A Dog Named Boo. I don't, but I do like, in something like descending
order of wonderfulness: I Wanna Be Your Dog (Stooges), Hellhound On
My Trail (Robert Johnson), Walking The Dog (Rufus Thomas), Hound Dog
(Big Mama Thornton), No More Doggin' (Roscoe Gordon), You're The Dog
(But I Do The Barking Myself) (Irma Thomas), Knuckles the Dog (Who
Helps People) (Killdozer), Where My Dogs At? (Sound of the Future),
Let Me Play With Your Poodle (Lightnin' Hopkins), Puppies
(Underworld), Chi Hua Hua (Bow Wow Wow), Reservoir Dogs (Armand Van
Helden), German Shepherds (Wire), Underdog Is Here (DJ Sushi), Bull
Dog (Shangri-Las), Hounds of Love (Kate Bush), Greyhound (Wynonie
Harris), Dog Eat Dog (De La Soul), Do The Dog (Specials), Gonna Buy
Me a Dog (Monkees), Atomic Dog (George Clinton), Dog Bite (Dead
Kennedys), I Wanna Be A Drug-sniffing Dog (Lard), Big Dogs (Method
Man), Dirt Dog (Ol' Dirty Bastard), Dog Latin (Kevin Coyne), I Want A
Dog (Pet Shop Boys), Don't Dog Me (Drifters), Dog In Heat (Missy
Elliott), Mad.men-eng.dog (Fall), Every Dog Has His Day (Sly & the
Family Stone), Lonesome Bulldog (Butthole Surfers), Walkin' Dog Blues
(Rev. Gary Davis), Watch Dog Blues (Muddy Waters), Bad Dog (Ted
Hawkins), How Come My Dog Don't Bark When You Come Around? (Dr John),
When It's Raining Cats and Dogs (PM Dawn), Dog Man (Big Amos Patten),
The Yellow Dog Blues (Bessie Smith), Low Down Dog (Big Joe Turner),
Dogs (Who), Walkin' Bulldog (Link Wray).

a lot of stories about dogs are sad stories.
my favourite bit of dog music is a sad one. it's the 'trilogie chien'
from the album 'l'incroyable verite' by sebastien tellier. it's the
life of a dog in three parts. there is something cartoonishly
affecting about it that really taps into the darker aspects of the
human-dog relationship. the first part of the trilogy is 'l'enfance
du chien', which is mournful in the same way as a pup's cries.
sebastien really loads on the pathos in ''une vie de papa' though,
which has a dreadful sinking feeling sharpened by the hopeful
whistles.
my favourite bit is the last, 'fin chien'. it's a clattering piano
doing a silent-era-film-soundtrack to a dog's adventure down the
street. it reminds me of a painting that used to be in my school art
book: it shows a dog on a leash, its legs and tail whirring around
creating flickering fans of manic limb. 'fin chien' is the most doggy
sound i've ever heard!
