I have this track on a tape for like ten years. I know it's been re-used by Sanchez on his "Crashin Jazz Mix" of "Givin' it up" by Incognito but unfortunately the latter version makes the former a mere background for hornamentalia galore and painfully soulish vocals left untouched from the original.
It's beginning with samples of male voices slightly processed (echoed, basically) and these overwhelmingly sad synth-strings and what i should call "windy" fx that altogether create some kind of "i'm lost in despair but i stand strong and courageous and now i watch the future". Add this bassline with that classic early 90s hyper sensitive and "melancho-lite" sound and then starts an almost midtempo (approx 115 bpm i'd say) breakbeat with a huge and fierce energy but not agressive at all. So this whole superactive but heartbroken feeling is getting quickly crazy and it goes on for about five minutes with the odd breakdown, and there's a harmonica flying over and even an "end of a complacent commercial jazz jam" moment at one point. I now realize the weirdly stimulating vibe of the track reminds me Burt Bacharach's "Make it easy on yourself" (sung by himself) but maybe it's just because i had these two songs on the same tape, or did i even tape'em off from the same radio show ? Anyway, someone knows the tune i'm talking about?
