i've been a fan of Tore's work since I first heard The Greatest Hit in October 2000. I've got most of his stuff and everything I have is awesome. There are some pieces missing though and short of Telle releasing a collection of his productions and remixes, this may be my only chance to complete my collection. Tore was making spaced out disco when it wasn't hip and would be on top of the world right now had he lived. Here's the blurb from Discogs.
Tore Andreas "Erot" Kroknes, who passed away in 2001 at the age of just 23, was one of the house scene's most promising artists in the late 90's and early 00's. His pioneering deep, dubby sound was well documented on releases such as "Song For Annie" and remixes for artists like Bertine Zetlitz, DK, Kings of Convenience and Mental Overdrive, and he also produced the classic pop single "The Greatest Hit" for his girlfriend Annie. Erot was also an important figure in the music scene in his home town Bergen, DJing alongside Bjørn Torske on clubs such as Agora and Kennel and contributing extensively to the renowned Tellé label; among other things, he was their in-house designer, and the Tellé logo and all the early sleeves were done by him (as well as loads of logos and posters for other Norwegian artists).
Tore suffered from heart problems from birth, and tragically, this eventually demanded his life; in April 2001, he passed away after a prolonged illness.
Stephan Grieder of the Svek label said to burntblue.com: "Tore was the only guy I ever asked to do remixes for Svek. He was so original in the way he did things and with his sound. He had such a big future, and we were all very shocked. He was just starting to produce his own music rather than just doing remixes, and it was just the beginning for him. It was very sad".
His friend and colleague Bjørn Torske said this in an interview: "Tore wasn't only a close friend, but also a tremendous resource, both design-wise and musically. The process of making the sleeves, for example, has become so much more demanding now. All the knowledge and courage Tore had was an asset we don't have anymore. Without him, Tellé would never have existed".
I've got the following tracks but want help compiling the rest. I'd be willing to put together a package either to mail out or zip up and YSI. I'm dying to hear the full version of Snow On A Hot Day, in particular.
Song for Annie
Song for Annie (Dub)
Sedation (from Svek comp) - same track as used for Gold In the..Kings collabo.
Slussen (Erot go Dub) - Persuader
The Real Jazz (erot mix) - mental overdrive
My beat (Erot mix) - blaze
sexy disco (erot mix)
I will get on
greatest hit (all mixes incl. 7" mixes)
------------------------------
Tracks I need:
Milk Chocolate Swing
Haribo
Battlestar XB-7 / Jeg Vil Være Søppelmann (bjorn torske/erot split 10" on svek)
About Erot (Tore Fra Singapores Usikker Musiker Mix) - mental overdrive
Snow On A Hot Day (Tore Fra Singapore's Lange Slange Mix) (14:05) - Bertine Zetlitz
Alchemy (Remix By Erot) - Max Reich & Johannes Foufas (Svek)
Please help the needy. Now is the time to look back and appreciate what Tore accomplished in his short life. I spoke to someone close to Annie who said there were some unfinished tracks of his but no plans to release them. Can anyone shed some light on any Erot productions not listed above or on Discogs?

I've got haribo, but unfortunately it's on a dj mix so the last 20 seconds is mixed with another tune. I can ysi if you want it anyway.
You should take a look at slsk if you have the opportunity. I found About erot and Alchemy after a bit of searching. I'll post them if the quality is good and no one else beats me to it. This will probably take a week though, looking at one of the queues...

thanks allan. i'd love those tracks if you ever get them. i can return the favor with some of the songs i have listed above.
nobody else loves Erot's stuff? With all the hype surrounding Todd Terje/Lindstrom/Prins Thomas, i'd think people would be revisting his productions. is this a lack of exposure or a lack of interest?

About Erot (Tore Fra Singapores Usikker Musiker Mix) - mental overdrivedunno where this comes from - (apart from "Song For Annie") I've got a plain "About Erot" on Discfunction. Maybe more but lots of records on the floor instead of shelves at the mo. Somehow I had missed the sad news until now.

From the few recordings I have I'd say, probably of interest. There's not enough 80s/electro signifiers in his hippie house, it doesn't sound like those guys, who do sound sameish to me.

i'd love to get About Erot from you Blunt, if you're willing to record your vinyl. have you heard the Slussen remix he did for Persuader? it's amazing. most of his work was done from 98-2000, so if he had remained alive, there's no telling where his sound would have led.

You'll probably find it before I get around to encoding it.. we'll see about that. Never knowingly heard that remix, will search.
It's unreal how fucked up this kid's destiny turned out to be - and I can't believe I had the nerve to express negativity about people in the same sentence up there. Maybe because it's all so unjust

Awesome! Thanks for that. I've compiled the complete Erot except for Haribo/Milk Chocolate. I've had some luck on other boards so if people are interested, give me a shout on this thread and i'll add you to the list.
BTW. Since the whole file sharing thing is hurting some artists emotionally right now, i'd like to say that this is one artist/release we should all support when the final product does come out. It may be 2 dj mixes or a DJ mix and a live set from Tore but Mikal from Telle is working on something for official release right now. He has a great idea about offering the original tracks on a digital download site and putting the mixes on CD. I've been listening to Erot's records for days now and have even more respect for his work. His mix of Slussen is perhaps the best Space Disco track ever. Fans of Lindsrom/Todd Terje etc. really need to check this stuff out.
