I'm wondering at what point you decide that music you previously enjoyed is now lousy. Is it simply when it fails to move you? Is it when you discover music that's more meaningful to you? Is it when you assess the song according to a set of criteria that you develop and refine as you listen to and process more music? Often, familiarity is a big factor when influencing the "liking" of music ( or pretty much anything for that matter ). I've found it hard to "grow to dislike" music that I once cherished, even when I know that if I heard it for the first time today it probably wouldn't mean much to me. I remember Tom talking about how he loved a REM album for a while and then turned against it ( with disgust born of a musical revelation). And many indie kids will stop listening to the music they used to love before discovering "freedom rock". Has this got something to do with musical snobbery? Or musical enlightenment?
