Veteran rockers The Who will headline this year's T in the Park festival.

It will be the band's first appearance at the two-day music extravaganza which also features the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who top the bill on day one.

Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and co - famous for Pinball Wizard and My Generation - will be joined by the Arctic Monkeys and Primal Scream.

Tickets for the event at Balado near Kinross on the weekend of 8 and 9 July will go on sale this Friday.

With no Glastonbury festival this year, organisers of T in the Park had their pick of the bands playing the festival circuit.

The line-up unveiled on Monday also includes the Kaiser Chiefs.

Although The Who have never played T in the Park, guitarist Pete Townshend made an impromptu appearance last year with singer Rachel Fuller.

does anyone know if the glastonbury organizers are finally doing a festival or something in Ibiza this summer?

I wouldnt be surprised if Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene et al all play now since their heroes are.

What a dull bill that would be. (but sadly popular in Scotland)

When's Travis being introduced?

After Ordinary Boys and Texas?

I remember the organisers once said they wouldnt let Simple Minds play because they were too old.
So don't be surprised if they turn up too.

I would quite cheerfully go and see a number of those bands. Quite a high number at that. All festivals have a couple of shit bands at them, you can avoid them and make a good weekend out of it. (I'm not going, but this line-up wouldn't have disappointed me hugely if I was)

It's utter horseshit. There's less than five thingsI would be at all interested in.

3 bands for me and I guess I would watch the strokes too.
It's a very poor line up for me.

Maybe only about seven or eight for me, but that's enough to make a good weekend. Fuck, I went to Bowlie for three days and saw four bands. There are worse things to get your knickers in a knot about than the line-up for a festival you aren't even going to.

I don't think there's anything wrong with lamenting the staid, predictable and downright horrendous T in the Park line-up. Especially when, completely outwith my personal choice, I have been hearing about it for months and will continue to do so. It's a topic on par with going to the dancing and the football down at the pub and I really wish it was a bit less pathetic to perhaps merit the amount of attention it gets.
