I've been listening to "Teh Train..." on the girl group box so I'm gonna go with that. "Kansas City" always seems like it doesn't rock or roll as much as I want it to. When the Beatles do it, after the initial hit of that signature guitar lick, I'm a little bored until they start singing the "Hey Hey Hey Hey" part, which is actually another song, written by Little Richard. I think Richard himself created that arrangement.

I just love the big, big vocal sound when they sing the title in "The Train From Kansas City." I had forgotten about the Neko Case version, I don't know where I put that album.

i love when one of the girls sings like a train whistle. i also like the little shuffly bass part the piano plays between verses.

the shangri-la's version of "train" is one of my favorite things, so that one.

Kansas City is great, but the single line "I'll be back in the time it takes to break a heart" is worth 99% of other careers, so the Shangri-Las win.

"there's nothin' i can do."

yeah definitely "train from." "kansas city" is a good song by a great songwriting team, but "train from" is a great song by a great songwriting team.

Gotta be "Train From." "KC" has that "it's just a-1-2-3-4, 5-6-7-8-9" line that always bugged me for some reason. Seems lazy.

RIP Ellie Greenwich.

RIP Ellie. I remember a certain former(?) ILXer playing "Goodnight, Goodnight" at the end of the night about 10 years ago and having to ask what it was and track down a copy.

And I'd somehow forgotten she co-wrote Be My Baby, so, for that too, yes.

Alba, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

she was a part of so many great songs...

RIP.

Deluxe Merseybeat Wig (Jack Battery-Pack), Wednesday, 26 August 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

"be my baby"
"baby i love you"
"chapel of love"
"christmas (baby please come home)"
"(today i met) the boy i'm gonna marry"
"da doo ron ron"
"do wah diddy diddy"
"river deep, mountain high"
"the train from kansas city"

that's a hell of a list of credits.

Wow, I knew she had her hand in a bunch of great ones, but not that many.

eleven years pass...

Wonder how many of you can tell me which word in the lyrics to "Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey" is always messed up the transcribers.

Blue Yoda No. 9 (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 25 May 2021 14:25 (four years ago)

Is it "clown" in the Hey Hey Hey Hey part? I'm not even sure what that word is?

Josefa, Tuesday, 25 May 2021 15:32 (four years ago)

two years pass...

The drum fills played by the (anonymous?) drummer coming of the bridge in “Train…” is one of the greatest things in music.
