Bonus for those who focused heavily on production too.

pretty much all the italo disco i've ever heard could be described as such

As I said, the 80s in general, more or less, at least the first half. (I guess the second half, dominated by hair metal, manufactured pop, rap and house music, was a bit different)

Madonna (apart from two albums: "Like a Prayer" focused more on melody while "Erotica" focused more on rhythm)

xpost - i saw, but then you added that little "in the UK, that is," rescuing my comment from redundancy. thanks!

Snow!!!

My Bloody Valentine seemed equally focused on melody and production, though the "drums" on 'Loveless' suggest rhythm was less of a concern. Ride and the Stone Roses have rhythms just as entertaining as their melodies; does that count?

Talking Heads

Snow!!!

Not a lot of melody there.

Talking Heads

Apart from "Remain In Light", which concentrates way more on rhythm (and some brilliant production) you may be right.

Owen is OTM about Stone Roses and let me add lots of other baggy acts such as Charlatans, EMF, Jesus Jones, early Blur, Mock Turtles, Northside. Not Happy Mondays though - they were mainly interested in rhythm.
