anapod explorer is much better than itunes imho, you can use a simple explorer interface to drag files straight onto your ipod

If you just want to get your tracks OFF the iPod again, the mL_pod plugin for winamp will do this for you.

I'm not entirely sure if it'll take a prepared-with-iTunes player and be able to do this straight away though, but good luck. Just don't "format" your iPod first if these things you're trying to copy off it are your only copies of the files.

Thanks electricsound for the suggestion!! Am v pleased with anapod, I fucking hate itunes and this works so much better!
