Time was when 4AD had a signature visual mystique (courtesy of Evenlope
23) and the classy panache of signing argubaly seminal bands like the
Cocteau Twins, the Pixies, Throwing Muses, the Birthday Party
(briefly), and (even more briefly) The The....only later to play host
to lamentable, yawn-inducing acts like the Red House Painters and His
Name is Alive. The 4AD curse has since resulted in the Pixies splitting
up, the Cocteau Twins acrimoniously ditching the label and then
splitting, and once-bright-hopefuls for 4AD, LUSH, having their
drummer/Peter Murphy-lookalike Chris Acland hang himself.
