Keep in mind I'm only two songs in, but this sounds like a wonderful medieval folk and Eno e-bow guitar blend.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Friday, 17 February 2006 07:39 (nineteen years ago)

I want to hear this. Can't see it on S1sk.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Friday, 17 February 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

Is this the one with the press notes that namedrop Led Zeppelin III?

"Album of the Year Contendor?"
"Keep in mind I'm only two songs in"

two phrases that should not go together

Renard (Renard), Friday, 17 February 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

Did you mean: contender

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 17 February 2006 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 17 February 2006 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

just trying to fight the good fight against rampant hyperbole.

so what's up with this record? who are they / he / she?

Renard (Renard), Friday, 17 February 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

For practical purposes, was panned over on Rolling Metal last week.

George the Animal Steele, Friday, 17 February 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

I like to use "contendor" in non-professional settings because I find it more aesthetically pleasing than "condender."

Sometimes a little hyperbole is healthy if it spurs discussion. But, yes, I may have spoken a bit too soon. The second track is so great that I felt compelled to make this thread. More or less, the album holds up on a track by track basis, but listening through the album in one sitting can be a touch maddening if, say, you have a headache. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like Bill Nelson.

Tracks 2 and 6 are amazing, but the guitar tone on track 4 grates a bit.

Ooh, tell us more, since it's unlikely I'll make any of the upcoming before they head back to SF. "Little Kingdom" is a definite contendor.

mark kerfuffalo (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

eight months pass...

Really surprised there isn't more talk about these guys (not sure why Shakey wants to lol @ them). The new album continues to grow on me. It isn't reinventing the wheel, but really nails a sugary kind of psych-pop sound that I absolutely love. And some really great guitarwork thrown in.
