Thanks to you ilxor people, I've discovered "We're in business" by A. Thompson that I do enjoy a lot and I would like to hear more fresh new songs that sounds very eighties. Plus I spin new wave/eighties music/electro in bars in Paris and I'm searching for new tunes. Do you know some ones ?

From my experience, there is nothing recent that sound completely like an 80s effort. However, there is a lot of great stuff out there that has the entire 80s aestethic about their sound, only with slightly updated drum sounds etc. An absolutely brilliant example of the latter is of course Annie's "Chewing Gun".

'Don't Go (Boys and Girls)' by Fefe Dobson

Abby (abby mcdonald), Sunday, 19 February 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yes Geir Hongro, I'm talking about a style, I don't want something that sounds "completly" like the 80's, it wouldn't be stupid and senseless to ask that ! As there's not a one style, one way of making music in the 80's, we can only talk about a certain sound of drums, of keyboards, of guitars, that is related to these days... Annie's "Chewing gum" is a very good one anyway, thanks !

Poison(Ivy) (PoisonIvy), Sunday, 19 February 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

Shoot. Sorry for the last answer, I just woke up, I'm still high from last night, and my english is turning terrible; it's "It would be stupid..." of course.

A couple songs on the *High School Musical* soundtrack could almost be Miami Sound Machine. (See teenpop thread.)

VHS or Beta have a very "eighties" sound to them.

Tess, Sunday, 19 February 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

Whoever mentioned Anja (who has still yet to receive a recording contract) should also mention Töyen Airport in the same breath. Another great unsigned Norwegian electro act.

The whole Editors album sounds like they've been listening to Joy Div / Cure / Teardrop Explodes / Echo & the Bunnymen. First 3 tracks are OK.

Zora (Zora), Monday, 20 February 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Dunno if they are really what you are looking for, but The Darkness is one of the most 80s sounding acts around today. Not electronic by any means though - their influences are rather the likes of Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Europe. :)
