The new Sebo K record on Mobilee sounds amazing, judging from the clips.

http://www.wordandsound.net/article/40081

Loving this label more and more. Except the plip plop!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 19 February 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

Have both those Sebo K samples practically on loop whenver I'm at the computer!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 19 February 2006 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

Very nice - I also have a soft spot for Prosumer vocals (especially on other people's records)

Jedmond (Jedmond), Monday, 20 February 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

just got numbers 007 (the sebo k, i think) , 008 and 009 on promo.... 009, particularly, is MENTAL....will post further description shortly.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 20 February 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

ooh, 009 sounds promising.

also really great is daniel stefanik's stuff on moon harbour recordings mhr 020 -- deviant behavior and liquid: deep housey blippy goodness.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 20 February 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
whoa, got hooked up for promos of 008 and 009.

Glad to see 008 is by Nhar, I already have a great 12 by him, real GPM style burbling electrohouse.

And this new Mobilee one is even better, both sides are brilliant but "Silk Cuts" is really something, as good as the best Get Physical stuff.

Mobilee is definitely the most exciting label around at the moment.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 11 March 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

I feel left out, I've only got 006.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 11 March 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

006, 007, 008, 009 is like the best run of releases I can remember, from any label.

Also check out Anja Schneider's mix of the new tune on Tsuba for more Mobilee style goodness.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 11 March 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

Acquired 002 and 004 today. Had heard 004 before but not 002 and the A-side on it, Pan-Pot's "Schuss aus der huefte", has completely blown me away. This label is firing on all cylinders.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 13 March 2006 03:43 (nineteen years ago)

totally, and they are churning out the releases too which is always good

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 13 March 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

i'd say mobilee and vakant are both doing some amazing stuff right now albeit a touch different. whose doing 009?

i can't wait to hear nhar's 008 - that plak record he just did was amazing.

what's everyone think of plak? i stumbled upon them the a couple weeks ago and i've been totally into 4, 6, 7 (nhar), & 9.

yassarian, Monday, 13 March 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

To revive this thread as my zealous enthusiasm for Mobilee has still not abated and in the 2 days since I last posted I've acquired 001-006 and there is indeed no filler:
Yassarian, Gummihz (must be a new guy as I sure as shit haven't heard of him) is doing 009: http://mobilee.e-23.org/index.php?id=35
The guy's hairdo makes Hawtin's look normal. So if we assume that the shitness of the hairdo and talent are inversely proportional I think it's going to be good. Sherburne calling it 'MENTAL' and Ronan calling it 'as good as Get Physical' only further that impression.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Thursday, 16 March 2006 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yassarian, yeah dude Plak has been interesting me too, though I only have the Nhar, which is pretty awesome. I've been listening to other recent ones though, must check them out. I remember hearing "Adrenochrome" when I bought it and thinking "this is such a MANDY tune" and then it was in one of those MANDY live mixes from the end of last year.

four weeks pass...
Revival 2: The revenge of Jim.

Just got 008 and 009 through the lovely Beatport. Pretty much ridiculously good. I kinda prefer the B-side on the Nhar. Not to reinforce stereotypes but I totally want to hear it out while pastilla'd off my face.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 15 April 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Is the b-side "Silkcut", that's my favourite. It is amazing, I too would love to hear it while pastilla'd.

You should check out Adrenochrome by Nhar on Plak Recordings, a Swiss label. It is basically a precursor to both the a and b sides of this one, kind of like the two mashed together. Lovely to hear some non falsetto acid for a change!

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

This label needs to release a CD so more internet people can get on it.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

I was kind of thinking that. Maybe a bit early though?

I've certainly got one or two of their tracks on CD mixes here & there already.

internet person (fandango), Saturday, 15 April 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

xposts. Yup, Silkcut is the B-side. Was going to Beaport that Adrenochrome but unfortunately Hexoflip is the only Nhar they have.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 15 April 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

the Gummihz is good too. all these greeks bearing microhouse

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Not gave that enough of a listen yet, it did seem pretty spectacular, and very much in keeping with the label's style, on first play though. I got the girl from Botany Bay at the same time so that's taken attention away from it for the moment.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 15 April 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

I need to check that still.

Did you get this yet Jim http://backlash.ie/audio/mixtape_07_romo.mp3

haha blatant plug but that's a mix I did to promote our night, I'd say you'd like it. there's a tracklist on a thread called Ronan's mix from this week sometime.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Just downloading it the now, will give it a listen tomorrow.

I can't recommend the girl from Botany Bay enough, it's just fantastic, totally anthemic, and being a big plip-plop man I don't use that term often. I'd check your mail later on. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 15 April 2006 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ah might be best to try my name @gmail.com no spaces, this account often can't recieve files.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

I think I need to order this Nhar record.

Bn1 (Bn1), Sunday, 16 April 2006 02:35 (nineteen years ago)

mobilee's design sense is really strong -- i love their aesthetic. the typography on the labels on the 12"s is really fantastic (i pay far much attention to these things!)

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 16 April 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

far too much, i mean!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 16 April 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

i want to like this label, and i have 6 (rancho/side leaps rmxs) and 5+ (with stefanik's "the bells"), but they rarely get played at all, especially compared to recent vakant and cadenza releases. vakant, to me, is especially on fire. as many have said, the new onur ozer is great, but the last mathias kaden is really sick.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 16 April 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

Did you get this yet Jim http://backlash.ie/audio/mixtape_07_romo.mp3

I'm listening at the moment, somehow couldn't find the thread when I searched for it (I have problems with searching for recent threads quite often), if anyone can point me to it that'd be nice.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Sunday, 16 April 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, mucked up italicising that.

Did you get The girl from Botany bay Ronan?

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Sunday, 16 April 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah am just listening now.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 16 April 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

i like mobilee 01 because i am sucker for the rmx on the flip. haven't heard any of the others, but i am going to remedy that ASAP.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Sunday, 16 April 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

hi! i just wanted to say that Pan-Pot (dj), Nhar (live) and Ralf Kollmann (dj) of Mobilee Records will be on mth.Electro radio today between 15:30 and 21:00 gmt.

fez, Monday, 17 April 2006 06:30 (nineteen years ago)

damn I missed this. ralf k sends me the tracks as mp3s. nice guy.

the new anja schneider continues the hot streak. mobilee owning the world this year, couldn't be any closer to blowing up.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

That gummiHz is great, along with Nhar. I'm definitely feeling mobilee >>>> plak right now, if only for plak's insistant IDM undercurrent (it tastes like a hairball)

if you could pass this new anja onto me, ronan, i promise to repay in compliments and other things to feed your ego!

natedey (ndeyoung), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

Anja Schneiders Addicted sampling the os x "funk" alert sound = prime example of german humour

fez (fez), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

Just listening through from 001-010 after getting the new Anja Schneider (is it just me or is Addicted maybe her best track yet?) off of Beatport when I realised two things, firstly I've neglected to obtain 007! and secondly that althought I've kinda neglected it in the past the Excercise One is pretty fantastic. Hell, this is all bloody phenomenal. Roll on the showcase next month in Barcelona.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

No-one bit. This is still phenomenal. Listening to 005 Randy-ho at the moment. This truely is the forefront of "the minimal groove" at the moment.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Sunday, 14 May 2006 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
How was the showcase?

The new Gummihz is amazing.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 7 July 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

Better than the old Gummihz

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 30 July 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

I just noticed they use my Stylus Gummihz review on their website. Hooray!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

I was just thinking that Mobilee needed a compilation.

Congrats Ronan! Those blurbs have me running over right now to spend a little more *virtual* money at Beatport.

natedey (ndeyoung), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

The Pan Pot ep is awesome. They just get better and better.

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

the new Sleeper Thief, continuing the goodness, bah you don't even need me to post here, every release on this label is ace.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

oh i didnt know pan-pot was on this label. nice. i was underwhelmed by the sebo k record.

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

when's the new sleeper thief coming out?

i love randy ho but i get tripped up by the painful family guy sample. could someone please tell me how to hate family guy less?

natedey (ndeyoung), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

Ronan talked me through all this stuff last night and I liked the samples I heard hugely. Is it still all vinyl-only at this point?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 August 2006 07:03 (nineteen years ago)

Matt see upthread, there's a compilation coming out soon.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 3 August 2006 07:13 (nineteen years ago)

:)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 August 2006 07:27 (nineteen years ago)

you can hear a lot of their tracks at their respective myspaces (fidelity be damned obviously) start - http://www.myspace.com/anjaschneider and see who you can find :)

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 3 August 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

or you could always purchase an mp3...

hector (hector), Thursday, 3 August 2006 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

hear != download from :O

no it is doubt possible to jack stuff off myspace with some fiddling... I just assume most ILM-ers are better than that. But If it hasn't been posted already: http://www.beatport.com/label/Mobilee+Records of course.

fandango (fandango), Friday, 4 August 2006 04:21 (nineteen years ago)

Now that a significant number of these have come out, and I have found a store which stocks quite a few of them, which releases would people say were the absolute best of the best?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 4 August 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

I do love that Mobilee ft Prosumer track, it's like an answer record to Basic Channel's "Find a Way".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 4 August 2006 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

Anja's Rancho Relaxo is probably the easiest recommendation, it's quite the anthem.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 4 August 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

Already have that one, and the Pan-Pot Mobilee 02.

I was thinking of "Lily of the Valley" maybe?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 4 August 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Why is there no gushing over this stuff I wonder. I mean its great there is much love for it, but no one is going on for ages singing its praises like was done for Kompakt for instance. Myself included.

I hope everyone is keeping an eye on exercise one, they along with pan pot are really kinda taking this in a prog direction. Lan music is going to be an interesting label to watch

hector (hector), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

I gushed, then I realised I was somewhat overly gushing and cut down on it. I think it's perhaps incorrect to compare with Kompakt, they've been going so long and took a while to reach the level of praise they garner for anything they shit out now (and as is often the case now it is literally "shit" they are releasing). Also unlike Kompakt there's much less chance of crossover. Mobilee is the kind of minimal stuff that haters will really hate whereas they might quite like some Superpitcher or whatever.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Also, er, this stuff is hard for non-vinyl enthusiasts to follow, at least until the CD comp comes out.

But yeah, as I was saying in another thread, this is like minimal end-point music. Einmaleins and Vakant perhaps even more so.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 02:52 (nineteen years ago)

its strange how I find it so interesting being minimal end point music cause I can see that description being on the mark. Usually I am a sucker for melodic flourishes and easy to follow subjects but this stuff keeps me coming back.

hector (hector), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 02:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I've been surprised by how much I've liked a lot of it. Though even more surprised by Ronan's love, to be honest!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

too true, not his usual stuff. Do you see any connection between some of this stuff and burial's album? There are a couple of tracks like the one after southern comfort and track number 10 that put me in a similar headspace although their style is so different.

The slight changes and expansiveness of the two are kinda similar though

hector (hector), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 03:32 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, well I don't like Burial, but maybe the point of similarity is dub. The combination of the dub with the ravey feel in Pan-pot's Schuss aus der Huefte is so irresistible, for me it's still primus inter pares in the output of Mobilee despite being released last Spring and the glut of quality releases since.

Also I'll third or forth the confusion as to why Ronan loves the label so much. It's totally plip-plop!

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

How was the showcase?

I actually missed the showcase at Sónar and for real I can't even remember why. Naughty drugs. Probably my biggest disappointment of '06 above the breaking up of a relationship and being fired from a job!

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

i don't see mobilee as plip-plop at all - i mean come on, shit like "rancho relaxo" is totally raving madness, while sebo k & prosumer's "moved" is a fake-vintage deep house staple. i think among all the labels mentioned here, mobilee tends to be the hookiest, really. eager to see them find more listeners once the CD comp comes out...

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

the new one by sleeper thief is very catchy, almost prog.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

i can see why the comparison would be made, but i don't think mobilee is plip-plop either. the best mobilees have obvious regular melodic hooks and grooves that go way deeper (in terms of physical presence) than yr typical micro track. the rhythmic tricksiness is there, but there's more pure 4/4 function happening. the last pan-pot e.g. is all bass pressure and freaky fills more like basteroid than troy pierce. some of the anja schneider tracks are twitchy micro, but they are also very straight/economic.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Thursday, 7 September 2006 01:58 (nineteen years ago)

see this is what I wanted, some gushing!

I think mobilee can easily be classifed as both plip plop and hooky
sebo k was fully deep house oriented but the pan pot and exercise one stuff not so much

hector (hector), Thursday, 7 September 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

I actually sort of like the dreaded plip plop, now! But I think to describe Mobilee as end point minimal is a tiny bit wrong, I'd say end point house music? Pan Pot are definitely end point minimal though. Someone should make an end point minimal CD-R or mix, where end point minimal is music that makes your friends go "What is this shit". It can begin with Luciano's "Father".

As regards Mobilee again, I feel it's like an amalgam of alot of styles, sometimes really lush and warm and melodic (Anja Schneider/Sebo K), other times cold and banging (Gummihz, Excercise One), other times heavily dubbed and arty (Pan Pot). I mean stuff like "The First Time" by Gummihz, where do you class that kind of sound?

Breakfast Pants otm about Anja Schneider's stuff too, really melodic and accessible, tho to be honest I prefer her remixes to some of the Mobilee stuff, particularly the one she did for Déssous which is amazing.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 September 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

2 CD's!

ooh good news, I was on the fence about buying this a bit, I'm not sure how well a lot of Mobilee stuff works unmixed for home listening really. Saying that the mix might not be that adventurous, but it's a great bonus.

*add to basket**add to basket**add to basket*

I got sent numbers 8, 4, 1 and 2 from CD 2 yesterday, really good bumping stuff...Prosumer's mix of "Moved" is even more epic, really Chicagoey and more slamming than before...

Sebo K has found new noises for his mix, also cool. Gummihz makes "Addicted" a bit less pristine and more choppy, very good. Not sure on the Pan-Pot remix of "Rancho...", so many remixes of that song now! But maybe just first listen problems...

apropros of bugger all, there's a really nice, quite addictive little Anja Schneider set here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GZFNPH2R

I think I was a bit wary of falling for the usual ILM label hype on this, but shouldn't have worried. Still haven't got a copy of "Back To Back" though. In stock? Delayed! My ass :x

fandango, Thursday, 22 February 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

not feeling the pan-pot tracks on CD 1 though... almost as flat out boring as the worst of "min2MAX"

fandango, Thursday, 22 February 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

Pan-pot needs a club so you can hear how huge the kicks are.

J@cob, Friday, 23 February 2007 02:53 (eighteen years ago)

I reckon Pan-Pot's first Mobilee release "Popy & Caste" is better than anything they've done for the label since.

Fandango what do you think of Sleeperthief's "Chasing You" though? I love that track so much...

Tim F, Sunday, 25 February 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

"Full Of You"(?), I like it, but it doesn't stick in memory like some of the other stuff maybe, it's probably a little bit too much on the softly house side of things for my ear...

as I suspected would be the case, that mix upthread (link still works!) WAY better than the mix on cd2 (unless that's a grower) btw! Haven't had chance to listen to Pan-Pot's tracks properly loud yet...

fandango, Monday, 26 February 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

"it's probably a little bit too much on the softly house side of things for my ear... "

I don't understand, Pan-Pot are too minus but "Full Of You" is too softly-house (?? This is like archetypal minimal to my ears)? Which tracks do you like fandango?

Tim F, Monday, 26 February 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

ah... I wasn't saying pan-pot sounded m_nus like... just that they sounded damn boring for 'minimal' on a first couple of spins (like far too much of 'min2MAX' whose tracks are actually much less convoluted, not in a good way) I still haven't listened again (been rewinding the rest too much) so I'm probably way off anyway....

Hey I like "Full of You" a lot... it's just very housey to me, and 'straight' in a few ways (bassline for one) even for minimal... and it bumps... but quite gently (soft?) and I still tend to lean into liking the more shimmy/polyrhythm/techno side of things by nature, I think you already noticed this before btw ;) As for the other tracks I like most of them!!

fandango, Monday, 26 February 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

people really need to quit hating on m_nus for being boring and (ugh) dry. "bay of figs", "seeing through shadows", "silent movie", "baby kate", "river camping", "decompression", "48 hour crack in your bass", all entirely non-boring bangers. if anything most of these are bouncy and damp over dry.

rio natsume, Monday, 26 February 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

I (if that's directed at me) don't hate m_nus across the board at all, just that compilation specifically, which I thought was overall, a boring rip off... considering the tracks they HAVE put out recently i.e. all of the above^ + 25 Bitches (Gaiser mix). I <3 teh minimal bangers!

"Hey I like "Full of You" a lot... it's just very housey to me, and 'straight' in a few ways (bassline for one) even for minimal... and it bumps... but quite gently (soft?) and I still tend to lean into liking the more shimmy/polyrhythm/techno side of things by nature,"

This is odd, 'cos I think of "Full of You" as being marvellously complex only in a really enjoyably pop manner - the pinging sounds, the two kick drums, the weird muffly hook that comes in halfway through, the rising synth-strings in the background... I agree it's not exactly Anja or Guido Schneider/Luciano/Villalobos but that's a very small proportion of minimal!

But maybe we're listening for different things?

I think that's what I was trying to say! (about the track, not about listening for different things... and me being a nazi if the 'minimal'is not the right kind of minimal ;) )

Is there a law at the moment that every DJ mix must include a Kerri Chandler track.

Tim F, Thursday, 19 April 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)

I think they're all off the same EP!

Ronan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

that kerri chandler ep is rather good though. mr. chandler was hanging out at optimo the other week and said he had his mind blown so i'm looking forward to seeing if that experience might inform any of his future releases.

stirmonster, Thursday, 19 April 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

the law is surely that every DJ Mix should include The Sun Can't Compare, also... getting a bit silly

that Sebo K tracklist doesn't leave me too psyched really, you can pretty much tell what it sounds like by looking at it.

Pan-Pot album out soon, who's heard it?

jabba hands, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 04:51 (eighteen years ago)

i haven't, but the anja schneider ra mix is tremendous

r1o natsume, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

I'll second that. Her RA mix sounds very nice.

Charly is a good track, if not for just being one of many recent tracks which added altered vocals for little to no good reason (citation: little white earbuds expanded on that point today)

I'm actually somewhat excited about this album, having listened to "Black Dog" from last year like a week ago and just being spellbound by the production really, the embodiment of what I look for in minimal techno/house etc.

And why did I not find out until two days ago that Marco Resmann left.

mehlt, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

i've always felt pan-pot can be a little trite with vocal samples - the family guy sample in "randy ho" immediately springs to mind.

Relistening to the first Back To Back comp, and reminding myself of how all-enveloping this music can be.
