more specifically, what do i do with these warp markers?
― cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)
kong: if you read the tutorials then surely you've realised that only your imagination can stop you now. cut bits out of songs and mix them over other songs, make some of your own diplo style sound effects for "crashing" between songs. play with the 3 band 'DJ-EQ' to steal basslines n other bits. go mental with the effects. play with the automation and the envolopes, make some cut-ups. make some of your own sounds with the synths. endless things you can do. get one taste.

Nah, render to disk isn't that great in this situation. When you use render to disk in the session view, it records the master output for a pre-specified amount of time. That isn't much use unless you know exactly how long you'll be playing for.
The method I gave above allows you to record for as long as you want. To grab the audio file at the end, just go to the folder you've got Live set up to record into. The file will be sitting there, with the same name as the clip you recorded into.

i'm also interested in how people manager their files while dj'ing... do you usually just keep 2-3 audio tracks open and drag files in and out or what?

1) once I've warp marked a track, can I open it in another set with the same warp markers?
2) if i create two instances of a track in a set i seem to be able to do different warp markers. how do I open a particular one of these in a new set?

i use the cursor up and down keys on my powerbook to adjust the tempo, just like i would with a pitch control on a technics. so, if i want to bring ableton in, i'll just mix it into the record i'm playing. it's a little fiddly at first but once you get used to it, you can mix in the computer about as fast as if it was a turntable. if it's going slightly out of time, i'll just increase or decrease the bpm by 1bmp for a fraction of a second which is the same as slightly slowing down / speeding up a technics.
