but WHO can STOP JACKSON?

Um, is it me, or is there very few singles being released at the moment?
It seems that as Michael Jackson is doing as Elvis did, with the 'bonus' of a dvd video on the b-side of the CD single. And a nice box to put them all in. JK/Joel were doing a 'who would be good if they did this' and invited people to text in a random list of artists..

Obviously, this would only work for artists that have 'blind' followers, i.e. that buy everything. Is it a ploy to establish himself as the new 'artist of this millennium' again?

Who can stop M.Jackson? But Who?

The unmentionable info suggests that he isn't going to #1 with the first re-release, or even close to it, and "Sorry" is well ahead of all-comers this week. As it bloody should be.

Madonna could do this but doesn't need to.

i really hope this falls flat. the Elvis campaign did at least have a novelty feel to it. many record buyers were too young to have heard his #1s the first time round. and the packaging of the vinyl and CD editions, with their nod to the original 78s and 45s, appealed to collectors.

judging by the cover of the "Don't Stop til You Get Enough" reissue, Jacko's lot are copying the 'use the original artwork' (and the box) idea. but everyone hates dual disc, right? and surely Jackson's #1s are too familiar from the umpteen hits packages he's put out recently to pay the legal bills?

as for who should do this, I wouldn't quibble at a Tamla-Motown version of this (but of course it would have to count US #1s too or it'd be a very short series!)

This is a 'vanity' project, right?

what's the point ? we alreay have his greatest hits and all his videos and it only costs GBP20/US $60/euro 50 / $90 australian.this way would cost $300. i doubt michael is happy and this is a SONY idea.
did "invincible cost 100 million and only sell 2 million worldwide ?

Mark, according to the midweeks, currently 19 different acts are stopping Jackson.

Would you put it past The Beatles (Just PM then) to be issue remastered versions of all UK singles as a mass advert for the remastered albums and tack the most #1's slot back from Elvis at some stage?

MitchellStirling (MitchellStirling), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

You'd have guessed the Beatles would have waited for their 50th anniversary, no? So you're safe for another 5 years.

50 years. Copyright runs out in UK after 50. Need to get in before that unless the laws are changed (Imagine they will be)

The Killers did something like this, if I recall properly. I believe they split their (only) album into something like eleven 45s (one per track, with a unique b-side) and then sold the whole thing as a box set. this, of course, begs a few significant questions. A: who needs eleven 45s by the Killers that has a genuine record player (cant run it through on the iPod natch) B: who needs another version of the Killers 1 and only album? C: who needs the Killers period?

At least Michael Jackson has more than one good single to release, bless his plastic heart.

That's ignorant. And very, very devilish.
