been listening to the old funkadelic records: funkadelic, free your mind and your ass will follow, cosmic slop; and was wondering if there is much more other music like this and what are people's faves. perhaps it's cuz bernie worrell and eddie hazel are just off the scale, but i think the organ/guitar sound is very compelling when they don't step all over eachother. by contrast feel free to list recordings with the worst b3/guitar as well.

eddie hazel [is] just off the scale

Give it a rest. Same time frame: Deep Purple, Mk. II. Uriah Heep, first three albums easy.

Procol Harum -- particularly Broken Barricades, the album after which Trower left. Re Hazel, if you're into the Hendrixoid guitar thing, Trower -- f'r instance, did a lot more with it.

Spooky Tooth had the B3 / loud guitar thing owned, too. "Waitin' For the Wind" is a choice cut and it's on Spooky Two. Spooky Tooth's version of "I Am the Walrus" also kills.

If you are interested in Hammond and guitar interplay, look up some vintage live Deep Purple, as they would really stretch things out on stage. Outside of "Made In Japan", there is an excellent early 70s live 2cd called "In Concert" made from two different BBC recordings.

The first two Lifetime records "Emergency" and "Turn It Over" also have some great Hammond and guitar dueling with Larry Young and John McLaughlin being propelled by Tony Williams on drums. It is some pretty crazy music.

Jimmy Smith/Wes Montgomery, Mel Rhyne/Wes Montgomery, Mel Rhyne/Peter Bernstein, Larry Goldings/Peter Bernstein
