Really...songs regarding, related to, or including references of zombies. I am having a zombie, lawn-game party sometime this April and I would like to make a mixed CD of zombie songs.

why not just put on a record by the zombies?

jonathon, Thursday, 23 February 2006 01:56 (twenty years ago)

"Zombie Jamboree" by Harry Belafonte & probably many others.

Zappa - "Zombie Woof".

brianiast (briania), Thursday, 23 February 2006 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Screeching Weasel - Zombie
Magma - Zombies (Ghost Dance)

The latter doesn't have any understandable lyrics though - dunno if that matters.
If you grow desperate, throw in Mercyful Fate's "At the sound of the demon bell" (but the whole "rise, rise" stuff in it is for ghosts or somesuch thing)

Øystein (Øystein), Thursday, 23 February 2006 02:12 (twenty years ago)

Jeffrey Lewis - If You Shoot The Head You Kill The Ghoul

Snowman - Zombies on the Airwaves of Paris

acidmouth (acidmouth), Thursday, 23 February 2006 03:17 (twenty years ago)

Practically anything by Zombina & The Skeletones probably, slsk ftw.

There's probably some songs by The Monsters (50-60's r&b/rock + psychobilly = best Swiss band ever) that have zombie references but I don't have any of their old records on this computer. There's a free copy of "Rock Around The Tombstone" which I don't think is specifically about zombies but has the general feel here:

TIME OF THE SEASON

killy (baby lenin pin), Thursday, 23 February 2006 05:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm making a zombie mix-cd at this moment! Not really zombie-songs, just songs that sound like they could have been played/recorded by zombies.

Anyway, the one song that inspired me to do it (well there was another one but this one gave the final push ;-)) is "Zombie Party" by Hiem. Fucking great. There's also a Konrad Black remix that appropriates the song for dancing purposes and while it's nice it's not really exceptional. Go for the original.

The Gonk by Harry Chappell. not a song, as such, but the supermarket music from Dawn Of The Dead.

2501 others here:

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 23 February 2006 09:42 (twenty years ago)

Posting a Gracenote listing is pretty much a creativity-killer, but I'll try to come up with a few anyway... :-)

Alien Sex Fiend, "Now I'm Feeling Zombified"
The Fleshtones, "I Was A Teenage Zombie"
Roky Erickson & The Aliens, "I Walked With A Zombie"

And, damn, someone already got to Fela up there...

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Thursday, 23 February 2006 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Jad Fair's "The Zombies Of Mora-Tau" is the greatest zombie song ever recorded!

"...and they could run FAST..."

js (honestengine), Thursday, 23 February 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Drunks With Guns - "Zombie"

Has to be heard to be believed.

Then there's American Music Club's "I've Been A Mess" with the classic line "It's gonna turn me into another great American zombie" - though that may be a little subtle for your purposes.

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 23 February 2006 16:47 (twenty years ago)

almost everything out of the first two Exuma albums...and early Dr. John too.

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Thursday, 23 February 2006 16:52 (twenty years ago)

Almost anything from White Zombie, but I'd go with "Ratmouth" since it opens with a sample from Night of the Living Dead - "They're eating the flesh of the people they've murdered." Great song, too.

Jan Davis - "Zombie Watusi"

Vancouver pop-punk band Gob had a great video with zombie cheerleaders. And the song isn't bad too. Can't remember the name of the song...

Phantom Planet - The Living Dead
Zombina and the Skeletones (awesome bAnd name) - many songs

I've written 2 or 3 zombie-related songs myself. In demo form only, but I really dig them. One is called "Be My Zombie", another is "torched Earth".

Also, I made 2 beats out of songs from the "Zombi 2" soundtrack. Good shitt.

Erock LAzron, Friday, 24 February 2006 23:08 (twenty years ago)

There was a whole PopMatters Zombies mixtape earlier this year.

Mordy, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 01:26 (fifteen years ago)

Never finished that zombie themed (-"atmosphered") mixtape I mentioned upthread. Should follow through, if only for the thumbs up email I got from one of the guys in Hiem who had apparently stumbled across this thread!

willem, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 12:03 (fifteen years ago)

I second "Zombies of Mora-tau" by Jad Fair for all-time best zombie song.
