Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:59 (twenty years ago)

although it kinda sounded decent today when I heard it on the radio for the first time with some bass in it, and not the complete mess it sounds like coming out of TV speakers

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Thursday, 23 February 2006 05:00 (twenty years ago)

that's good, yeah. the za za zas are a nice touch. i also love that it's a "saw this girl at the club" track, so 1988.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 23 February 2006 05:28 (twenty years ago)

its all conscious hiphop to dance, just like "drop it". people really are focused on genres lately.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 23 February 2006 09:21 (twenty years ago)

except drop it didn't suck

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 23 February 2006 09:26 (twenty years ago)

The rappin' and Pow-Wow zuh-zuh-zuh-zuh-in' is good but the beat is mad gay.

That other recent L.L "what you want" track with Freeway over the "hot wheels" loop rules.

LYRICAL MR PERFECT, Thursday, 23 February 2006 11:42 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the Freeway track is great. definitely a better 'street single' than the one with Juelz and Just Blaze that sounds just like the Fat Joe beat.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:21 (twenty years ago)

one part funky cold medina, one part 1-2 step

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

All parts LL.

I can't believe that's JLo!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

it's more "Going Back To Cali" than "Funky Cold Medina," Jermaine even said recently that he told LL to bring back the "Cali" flow on this song, which I think was a terrible decision.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

i only got dribs and drabs through a shitty realplayer stream

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

This is pretty fantastic.

"She licked
Off
Her lip
Gloss"

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 11 March 2006 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

"looking for the perfect beat" by afrikka and the soul sonic force is an incredible song. MC GLOBE saying "Zen zen zuh zen" in Planet Rock is pretty great too. LL Dupri n Lopez do not do their source material justice.

substitue for "holla at me baby" by paul wall, pitbull, fat joe, lil wayne and rick ross.

theghostrobot (theghostrobot), Saturday, 11 March 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

didn't they originally want Fergie from BEP to be on this song but LL didn't offer her enough money for it?

Nice touch, Dan. ;-) Yeah, good song. Theghostrobot's complaints seem misdirected (perhaps appropriately the use of the source music reminds me of "Lose Control" to an extent).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 9 April 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

What's LL doing? This kind of "Going Back to Cali" delivery totally does not fit the song and yes, the flow is exactly like "Funky Cold Medina" only that one was funny and this record is not.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 9 April 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

It's his "Infatuation," and god bless.

Zwan (miccio), Sunday, 9 April 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

I heard a short clip of this and before I recognized it, it definitely sounded like BEP. :(

mike h. (mike h.), Sunday, 9 April 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

the way J.Lo keeps interrupting the verses to respond to what LL is saying is hilarious. "hi...oh yeah...me too!"

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Sunday, 9 April 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

I hear a mash-up with 'the Bad Touch' in my head (kinda a good thing).

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Sunday, 9 April 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

OH.MY.GOD.YOU LET THESE COLOREDS GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING.HAHAHA!SHIT IS WEAK...I'M IN AWE.

FRDGFGG, Sunday, 9 April 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

You're looking for the Destroyer thread.

Zwan (miccio), Sunday, 9 April 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

I love it

Anthony Piniii, Tuesday, 11 April 2006 03:53 (nineteen years ago)

Terrible song & video!!!!

Chris Bergen (Cee Bee), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 05:05 (nineteen years ago)

PS: J-Lo is HOT

Chris Bergen (Cee Bee), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

Sexy records are pretty hard to make but this is pretty much OTM

Treblekicker (treblekicker), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

It has a certain tacky appeal.

deeej, Tuesday, 11 April 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

The liberal sampling of an 80s electro classic so soon after "Lose Control" + LL's dated flow = slightly tacky. I don't dislike it though!

deeej, Tuesday, 11 April 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

I love that he revived his old delivery. It definitely made me pay attention more than I otherwise would've.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand how it would be possible not to love this song! Za za za za za! I luv J-Lo.

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 15 April 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

i love it.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 15 April 2006 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

they goez "za za za" omgwtf! easily amused, people?
this song reeks of tackiness...dull beats, weak flow - instant 2006 classik!

Space Is the Place (Space Is the Place), Saturday, 15 April 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

^^^ real talk

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Saturday, 15 April 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

it sounds great on the radio in the car.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 15 April 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

SItP continues his/her quest to be the most consistently OffTM poster on ILM.

Dan (Mr. Snrub, Your Response?) Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 15 April 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

Which electro classic is sampled?

Big Willy and the Twins (miloaukerman), Saturday, 15 April 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Afrika Bambaataa's "Looking for the Perfect Beat" I think

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Saturday, 15 April 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Heard this for the first time in the car... thought it was totally tepid and a real step down for LL. And THEN I heard the za-za-za and man, that is so awesome.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Saturday, 15 April 2006 22:29 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
love the sample. hadn't heard this until just now even tho it's been top 5 in the UK for a few weeks now.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 29 May 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

What kills me is that they didn't hold it (in the U.S., at least) for a summer release - this coulda/shoulda been a HUGE summer smash. Instead, it barely crawled to the mid-20s on the R&B chart, and while it did make it to the top 5 pop, that's just 'cause of digital sales. Why in the world did radio ignore this? It's like the analogue to Missy's "Lose Control," and just about as great.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and having LL go back to his "Going Back to Cali" delivery is genius because everyone knows that "Going Back to Cali" is his GREATEST SONG EVER.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

I like it more than lose control, but less than "I'll Whip Your Head"
