Seriously, is this the only Levitation thread on ILM!? I could swear I've ranted here on them before.
Just giving "Need for Not" a dust off. Its a fine album - possibly ahead of its time in the sense they did the prog thing about 10 years before everyone else (*coff* muse *coff*) copped it.
Love this album.

It's a good album, especially 'Resist'. Not so much prog as complex psych-pop. Also very good mates with a certain band I don't have to name.

Levitation made an awful lot more sense when you stared directly into their mad eyes from four foot away on stage at King Tuts or similar, like I seemed to find myself doing a lot in the early nineties.
Gazing *cough* backwards through rose coloured granny glasses, I can honestly say that they tore shit up in a live setting and in a strangely unique fashion like very few bands I've seen before or since.

Truly weird, because last sunday I listened to them for the first time in one million years.Oh, the memories - Trayce is right, what really amazed me was how much some of their songs seems to predate Porcupine Tree (who are huge here in Italy).

I listened to "Even When Your Eyes Are Open" earlier this week (and flirted with the notion of selling my Dark Star CD, but recanted).

Was alerted to these by a friend, nobody probably gives a shit but what the hay.

Bickers is far more visceral and energetic than Shields; and i get far more pleasure from his brand of chaos -- the critics are completely wrong.
"Loveless" is noise; "World Around" is sound.

The original version of Meanwhile Gardens is finally getting a proper release along with some of the other material from that period.

got dragged to a gig last night that turned out to be the band ZOFFF, which is normally christian hayes plus three other guys playing very can-ish improvised heavy psych, except last night they were joined on stage by terry bickers as well. really excellent, expansive set, actually i enjoyed it way more than any levitation i've ever heard - worth seeing if you get the chance.

nice, ty for the heads-up
don't get the feeling christian strays far from brighton though?
― imago, Monday, 4 September 2017 10:36 (eight years ago)
think they've played the odd london show and they're on the bill for the liverpool psych fest this month too. but yes, mostly brighton stuff by the looks of it
jo spratley also briefly guested with them last night btw, was just vocals for about 2 minutes though

should say they have records that the whole world can enjoy:

seems to be lots of overlap with the spratleys japs band, cf damo waters involvement
― imago, Monday, 4 September 2017 11:43 (eight years ago)
that's the drummer right? he was pretty great, seemed like him that was really driving the music
― plp will eat itself (NickB), Monday, 4 September 2017 11:53 (eight years ago)
if damo waters is in zofff then zofff is worth seeing
― imago, Monday, 4 September 2017 11:56 (eight years ago)
and yeah he is basically the all-purpose drum mensch of the south coast
