adam (adam), Friday, 24 February 2006 02:52 (twenty years ago)

Its not my favorite, its almost too dry and weary, but its a good song with a vid that should get some attention.

three weeks pass...
Jess Harvell in the Baltimore City Paper re Juvenile (as an aside I see that the upcoming New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest does not feature any New Orleans rappers but does include Doug E. Fresh and the Meters)

Rolling Stone says: Juvenile took the Number One spot this week, with his latest album, Reality Check, selling 174,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. While the New Orleans rapper was completing the record, hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck, and Juvenile was inspired to write the angry "Get Ya Hustle On," a rallying cry for everybody who "need a check from FEMA" after they "lost everything in Katrina."

And then buy and presumably sell CO-CAIN-E-AH

Juvenile is a poseur rapper who needs to hang it up, March 17, 2006
Reviewer: Catfish "Sidekick of Misterjaw" ((Pacific)) - See all my reviews
Before I review this sophomoric artist called Juvenile, I am sick of seeing these 5 star reviewers praising some glorified thug who is called Juvenile, juvenile delinquent is more like it. Anyone who bashes FEMA and our President(like this loser whom is probably best friends with bigot king Kanye West) deserves to be sentenced to death. Get Ya Hustle On and What's Happenin' are very awful and bland. This bozo only cares about money and not his fans and is a racist. This guy is a sexist, bigot, hypocrite, greedy tyrant. Avoid and buy any Slayer album now.

If I were more hardcore than I am (which is not at all) I'd get FUCK FEMA tattooed biker style on my knuckles.

You could graffiti it all over DC and New Orleans...

We got enough graffiti at the moment.

That video is great. The Lower 9th Ward still looked like that the day before Mardi Gras, too.

stephen colbert's interview with michael brown kinda gave me shivers...i wish colbert would've shown this video to him, cueing it right at the moment when brown says he loves black people.

Jess's article linked upthread is great.

Juvenile's been added to the bill. I think Reality Check is kinda overrated, the B.G. album is way more listenable.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

I donno I haven't seen too many people go overboard on Juvenile, I guess Tom B. had lots of superlatives for it with all the greatest-except-for-ghostface stuff but I think its a solid album that is worth celebrating. Yr right that B.G.'s is better, though.

I'm still obsessed with this video. Linked to Jess's piece with my own:
