Rinôçérôse - "music kills me": this year's "Discovery"?

They wish! ha ha.

On this, their second LP, they've honed their house/disco with rawk guitars schtick, and now make open allusions to Hendrix, the Stones and AC/DC. Still using plenty of flute too, which should make Pete happy, but have cut back on the vocoder in favour of some 'real' singing - sampling Steve Marriott's vocals for one cut. Sounds to me like it would work great in a club - the remixers need to get to work on it - but as a home listening experience it all feels a bit empty. In short, less than the sum of its parts. Anyway, anyone else heard it?

it's more like wannabe Discovery...basically, it's bad... very bad... but I liked 1st album...

(they're on V2) (admittedly, contenders for worst label in history)

In short, less than the sum of its parts

And those parts don't sound all that encouraging to begin with.

If you mean this year's Discovery as in "ILM sensation" I would expect all those boomer-rawk ingredients to squash any chance.

And if you mean as in "sophomore mega-fizzle", much as I enjoyed Installation Sonore, I'm not pumped enough for LP2 to match the letdown that for me was named Discovery.

i still need somebody to buy me discovery.

Jeff, I listened to this last night, and I didn't catch any specific rawk allusions in the music. The song titles, absolutely, without exception. But if I hadn't looked at the booklet, and I usually don't, I would have noticed more rock elements, but no particular Hendrix, Stones, Dead Can Dance (!?!) bits. Did you hear them?

And I agree that it's rather dud for listening. Sonore at least had a distinctive blend of sounds going for it.

I meant the titles, yes (but I read an interview last week with the duo where they claimed the new LP was heavily influenced by their passion for the 60s Rolling Stones.)
