Who else is tired of music reviews that name check Giorgio Moroder?! There are TONS of other Italo artists ... disco artists ... he didn't invent arpeggios. he didn't invent the keyboard.

SUPER CRAZY INFLUENTIAL ... yes. the ONLY one you can point to?

NO!!!

... thoughts?

I agree. Especially in the last year, it feels like a ton of stuff ends up referencing him.

chalk it up to laziness. Or the fact that he's the only person that people can think of as an electro heavy-weight. And some may be under the impression that its one of those hipster reference points to gain them some indie cred. But I'm with you, its making it worse, and ends up insulting half the time.

Thoughts? Yeah, he's the one artist from the genre that people who don't already care about Italo would know off the top of their head. Kinda like referencing Can for Krautrock. Sure, you can jerk off with your clever Xhol namecheck, but most people won't give two shits whether or not you're making further sub-distinctions in a sub-genre unless they already have a fairly healthy knoweldge base. But don't let me distract you from the melodrama of slow tears falling on your Scotch 12"s.

He is pre Italo, isn't he? I would consider him an important influence on Italo disco, but he predated it, while most of the examples mentioned here are rather examples of typical Italo acts.
