The ladies of metalcore!

Plenty of women in metal! Plenty in hardcore too!

But metalcore seems to be pretty devoid of any female influence whatsoever. Maybe since it combines the insular fantasy-world dude-nerdery of metal with the macho posturing of hxc into one big sweaty, guy-on-guy bro-off?

There's Marta from Bleeding Through. There's Candace from Walls of Jericho. And that's about it, right?

Maybe if more ladies got into metalcore, so many mxc liner notes wouldn't photo-shopped pictures of bloody suicide girls laying dead on a bathroom floor.

Has someone been reading his most recent issue of Revolver while on the can?

the bass player for indecision was a girl, at least when they toured europe.

there was a girl in disrupt..not so much metalcore, but still pretty hard

the girl from convinced in sweden...probably not a band anymore

there was a girl in disembodied, and possibly martyr AD

um...comeback kid, although not really a metalcore band, mostly tuff guy

billy milano was a girl

"Plenty of women in metal"? "some" maybe (top of my head: singer from Lacuna Coil; Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy; woman who used to play in Aeternus; singer from Nightwish; singer/bassist in Jucifer; anything else spring immediatly to mind?) Metal's always been at least somewhat about boys' clubs, wouldn't you say

Indecision was so awesome btw, good call jonathon

there's probably a lot of Hot Topic goth metal bands I'm missing though (Evanescence springs to mind now)

Otep is a female woman.

Grief, 13 (and the same women later in Sourvein, Electric Wizard etc), Girlschool, ...

I could name at least 20 semi-notable women in underground metal. Going past that might stretch my abilities.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Saturday, 25 February 2006 03:59 (twenty years ago)

I actually know a ton of girls who are into metal though. Too bad it was a total sausage party when I was a metahead. I really missed out.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Saturday, 25 February 2006 04:00 (twenty years ago)

heh, metahead.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Saturday, 25 February 2006 04:01 (twenty years ago)

Dear everyone,

This is why the thread is called "the ladies of metalcore."

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Saturday, 25 February 2006 05:38 (twenty years ago)

Because the topic changed. Somewhere in the thread people starting talking about women in metal generally.

And as for metalcore, it's a smelly hypermasculine genre. What do you expect? Women tend to stay away from shows where people get beat up. And hardcore, and metalcore by association, has a toughguy jock rep.

I think the question answers itself.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Saturday, 25 February 2006 06:05 (twenty years ago)

I know it's not your fault, James. I'm just trying to steer the ship back around.

There's a good Swedish Gothenburg clone called Sonic Syndicate who has a 19 year-old bass player who is bound to set kiddiecore boys' hearts a-twitter.

Aww, latebloomer, you can find unflattering pics of ANYone if you search Google images long enough. Granted, that shot of her with her mom makes her look kinda frumpy, but aside from her gnarly expresssion, I have NO problems with that first pic whatsoever. You do?
