Xenomania POV

I'm starting this thread because I have exactly five favorite Xenomania songs. How convenient! Any involvement (production, songwriting, mixes, etc.) counts. My picks:

Girls Aloud - "Biology"
Sugababes - "Ace Reject"
Rachel Stevens - "Funny How"
Alexis Strum - "Nothing Good About This Goodbye"
Kylie Minogue - "Made of Glass"

I wouldn't mind someone assembling a greatest hits, if you get me. (Partially so I can get a sense of their exact sound or sounds, which admittedly I don't have the best grasp on yet.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 01:25 (twenty years ago)

Xenomania discography.

I didn't know they produced one of my least favorite songs of all time, Cher's "Believe"!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 01:32 (twenty years ago)

I could send you some tracks if you want Ned. There are still many things I've yet to listen myself.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Girls Aloud - No Good Advice
Lene - Here We Go
Mania - Baby When You Go
V - Hip To Hip
Sugababes - Round Round

Heck, feel free! (nedr@sbcglobal.net, please.)

I think Higgins only wrote (but didn't produce) "Believe". I like it except for the vocoder.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 01:39 (twenty years ago)

POVI:

Girls Aloud - "No Good Advice"
Dannii Minogue - "Heaven Can Wait"
Girls Aloud - "The Show"
Sugababes - "Round Round"
Girls Aloud - "Biology"
Rachel Stevens - "Nothing Good About This Goodbye"

haven't heard Mania (will remedy soon) or the orig Alexis Strum version of "Nothing..."
"Funny How" and "Ace Reject" would be next faves

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 03:35 (twenty years ago)

Sugababes, "Ace Reject" (with "In The Middle" close behind)
Alexis Strum, "Nothing Good"
Saint Etienne, "Burnt Out Car"
Rachel Steven's "Funny How"
Girls Aloud, "Biology" or "No Good Advice," because, ARGH, too hard to choose -- I like "No Good Advice" better as song, but the production on "Biology" is of course mind-bending.

So, yeah, very similar to Daavid's.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 04:00 (twenty years ago)

And if I had to destroy one Xenomania song, it would be Jem's "Falling For You."

And I would love to hear what they did with/to Sexus.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Sexus, my goodness, there's a name from the past.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 04:03 (twenty years ago)

"The Official End Of It All" was practically a Xenomania song in spirit, really.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 04:05 (twenty years ago)

Xenomania top 5 = same as Girls Aloud top 5

No Good Advice
Swinging London Town
Graffiti My Soul
The Show
Love Machine

only non-GA tracks to really compete are 'Round Round' and 'Funny How'.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

didn't alexis strum pen 'nothing good about this goodbye' herself? or did xeno write it for her?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:46 (twenty years ago)

It's a co-write between her and Brian Higgins alone, rather than the whole production house. You can't actually trust writing credits on most Xenomania tracks, though, as they're dicked around with to divvy up the publishing fairly between the members.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

girls aloud - some kind of miracle
girls aloud - the show
sugababes - round round
mania - if you need a good girl
st. etienne - shower scene

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I completely forgot about "If You Need A Good Girl". So stupidly good, better than its A-side even! I should have picked that instead of "Baby..".

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

yeah i've been disappointed that the other Mania stuff i've heard didn't match it, although i've not heard 'Baby When You Go'

could've picked 5 GA tracks but where's the fun?!

actually surprised to find 'Shower Scene' really WAS Xenomania instead of just sounding like it.

'Red Dress' is now my second fave Babes track after 'Round Round' after hearing it out at Clique last Friday.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:57 (twenty years ago)

is 'red dress' xenomania too? it sounds like it. darn promo copies with no credits. ok, 'red dress' is no 6.

i love 'if you need a good girl' et al as much as any poptimist but come on, it is unbelievable that only i have mentioned 'swinging london town'!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:59 (twenty years ago)

darn mp3s with no credits

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:03 (twenty years ago)

well i'm not going to go anorak-crate-digging to see who wrote what! that's a totally indie trait.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm just loving those swirly guitar twangs on 'Some Kind Of Miracle' too much at the moment.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I just want to add in their remix of Kenickie's "Stay In The Sun" and ponder on a third, Xeno-produced album by Ms. Laverne, Ms. Du Santiago, Ms. Montrose, and Mr. X. *sigh*

lex, you are a trait.

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I could have sworn Xenomania did "Blood Sweat and Tears" for V...?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Girls Aloud - The Show
Kylie Minogue - Loving You
Rachel Stevens - Funny How

Girls Aloud - Love Machine
Girls Aloud - Graffiti My Soul
Girls Aloud - Deadlines & Diets

danzig (danzig), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Well, considering that they don't always hold up too well, overall, this is an unsurprisingly Suga-GA affair:

Sugababes - Situation's Heavy
Girls Aloud - Models
Sugababes - Red Dress (rockist's version, obv: there's some unnecessary effects on the single version I'ma do without)
Girls Aloud - Waiting
Sugababes - Round Round

BARMS, Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

Sugababes - Situation's Heavy
