B-Movie -- yes, "Nowhere Girl" and all that, but not just that

A one-hit wonder in general, to be sure -- recently remixed on the Future Retro comp, and a good song it is. But while they weren't giants I think they definitely had something to them, as relistening to the Remembrance Days and Radio Days compilations the last couple of days have shown me (again). The Peel Session tracks at the start of Radio Days in particular are killers -- "Welcome to the Shrink" is amazingly majestic.

A couple of years ago, I picked up "Forever Running" on cassette for about 50 cents. I hated the album, not like it mattered because it only cost me 50 cents to find this out. But I was certainly disappointed that its version of "Nowhere Girl" wasn't the extended version that I was used to hearing on the radio.

Forever Running is definitely *not* the album to get, it's well after the fact in terms when the band's best work was done in 1980 and 1981, when the original "Nowhere Girl" and "Remembrance Day" was recorded.

the mike thorne produced stuff is great. the some bizzare 12" of nowhere girl is great. funny tho, polydor/polygram could only sign b-movie if they took soft cell as well. watch out for the remembrance days album - very patchy and not the polished versions that we know and love. always remember peter powell playing remembrance day on radio 1.

ex-B-Movie man Paul Statham is a kind of lowkey musical hero/presence. amongst other things, he was a key solo Peter Murphy collaborator, Shelly Poole's musical partner on her recent debut and he cowrote/produced some of the best songs on Rachel Stevens' Come And Get It with Pascal Gabriel and Hannah Robinson.

I didn't know he was doing that nowadays! Yeah, I've always liked Statham -- being a Peter Murphy freak I'm well aware of his importance there (I believe that's how he first met Gabriel, through the production on Cascade).

I might actually look for this instead, which covers a lot of the same material and might be easier to find.
