need ID of drum machine sound in most Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis productions

well you see i was listening to Karyn White's "Romantic" and throught its drum machine rhythm, there was this particular sound.

Now it's kinda hard to describe but it sounds like someone is hitting an inverted glass or someone is cupping the glass and rattling a ice cube around in it. It can be heard in most Janet Jacksons early productions, in the SOS Band's "The finest" and in a few others i can't think of. Can anyone identify this sound and what model drum machine it comes from.
