jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 6 March 2006 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

what, right now? i hardly listen to any albums any more, but recent non-techno spins have included liars' drums not dead, cat power's the greatest (just downloaded from emusic, not sure what i think yet), beth orton's new one (yo jim, asleep at the controls there?), boris, alog (electronic but not techno), bird show, his name is alive, jose gonzalez, and scriabin's 24 preludes. (opus? fuck a opus.)

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 6 March 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

90% of my non-techno[-in-the-broad-sense] listening is classical. all the big names (except not so much Mozart, who may be the least techno-friendly of composers), the Romantics, Messiaen, Stravinsky, Ives, Durufle, Reger, Elgar.

Melt-Banana - Cell-scape
Gotan Project - La Revancha Del Tango

and I go back to an even spread of almost any albums/material by Björk, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Victoria Williams, Throwing Muses, Jimi Hendrix for substance & nourishment I guess.

'cause I'm just getting into Can and Loveless (for real this time!), and Anniemal, Robyn, and Discovery all hit me pretty hard. But I just can't see giving up the good old Minutemen.

this is current ... an all-time list would be like half sun ra (cosmic tones for mental therapy, lanquidity and the solar myth approach) ... it would probably also have sunroof!, stereolab, spiritualized, pavement and jimi hendrix, boredoms, metallica, earth, electric wizard, hawkwind and gong. oh, and the olivia tremor control. that sort of wraps up all the rock bands i listen to, i think.

i am not really sure if disco counts, but i could probably come up with a list of ten disco compilations that i listen to as often as any techno album.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 07:34 (nineteen years ago)

yeah ... it's not obscure, but i usually just listen to My Bloody Valentine or the later Slowdive albums. it's been that way for years, and i don't see it changing soon. i love that shit so much. the production is fantastic on the unreleased Slowdive albums! so raw and gritty, but it still carries that same sense of spaciousness and ... i don't know ... oomph!

lately i have been revisiting Nitzer Ebb. really, really fun!
