No there is no need to defend either this song, or drinking. They go together well.

I recently considered getting rid of this CD because I need money and I just don't play it as much as some other Blur CD's. But alas, I didn't, I couldn't bring myself to do it.

"Country House" is one of the best songs ever written, and obviously the best things Blur have ever done. Exactly what quality pop should sound like, with a perfect great singalong chorus, a Madness-influenced backing track and Kinks-influenced backing vocals.

"Roll With It" is a great song too (influenced by early Beatles songwriting style), but "Country House" winning the "singles war" was deserved.

Roll With It is the worst Oasis song by far, Country House is probably Blurs worst but still better than Roll With It.

"Country House" is a great, boppable, fun pop song. The best thing about it, however, is the B-side, "To the End (La Comedie)" featuring the gorgeous vocals of Francoise Hardy and a wonderful accordion solo. Pure bliss.

I'm gonna go with "indeed indefensible" too. The chorus is just so
silly. The only defensible thing about it is probably the intro guitar which lasts about four seconds. After that, the whole thing takes a nosedive. Still it's far from being Blur's worst moment. Have you all forgotten about "Tender"?

Perhaps the worst song on its parent album, but still very defensible. The "blow blow me out I am so said" counter-melody is interesting contrast to the boppable fun pop song aspect of the track. And I find the Balzac / Prozac rhyme to be amusing, and certainly more interesting than the doggerel that Noel Gallagher was passing off as lyrics at the same time - "You've got to roll with it," indeed.

I love the off the wall guitar solo, one of coxon's finest, and the aforementioned middle 8 is lush, the comedown part that made albarn's irriatingly fake jauntiness acceptable. the benny hill video was 'of its time'. shooting stars anyone?

That bit is this song's saving grace. It would be infinitely worse if it wasn't for that part.
