I've put up a couple of songs on other threads and they're still up if you'd like to hear them:
Darkwood Dub - Zapremina - electro-pop (they're a pretty well-known band for more than 10 years now. used to sound a little more rock-ish. i don't know if you're looking for songs with serbian lyrics, this is an instrumental song.)
Indira Radic - Preko Preko - turbo folk, i put it up here as a joke since it's very OTT, it "samples" a Rammstein song and the woman sings badly over it. she is also very well-known, practically a superstar around these parts. this is not one of her bigger hits, though. as i said, it's turbo-folk, and it's probably the most prolific (and the most popular) music genre in this country. most of the songs on the page that nicky-lo-fi posted are in the same vein.
if you're interested in Serbian rap, there's a bunch of mp3's here, i can give you some recommendations if you'd like, just specify what kind of songs you want to hear. don't start from the beginning, that "master scratch band" folder is a DJ album from the 1980's, "sindikalni" is a radio show, and "orbodmebej" is an album from 1996 over popular beats. all the other stuff is mostly post-2000. (there are also videos here.)

I've fallen in love with some Serbian brass band music on the Goran Bregovic soundtrack to the movie Underground, and just dipped my feet in the surface of another band, the Boban Markovic Orkestar.
Are there other classic recordings in this genre, and other names I should look into? TIA.

Just posted on the current classical thread, but perhaps worth a mention here. Right this moment, I'm listening to and enjoying some contemporary Serbian classical music linked to from Kyle Gann's blog (I'm on the first file linked to from this post):

Disciplina Kicme, later known as Disciplin A Kitschme is a great post-punk/noise/whatever band. With their funk inspired groove, rebellious shouted slogans and agressive sound they would be something like a balkan equivalent of Public Enemy.Checkout the earlier stuff, with the serbian spelling, later on they started singing in english and tried to conquer europe, but we all know how that went.
