J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 03:54 (nineteen years ago)

sex pistols if your aged 11- 18 ... otherwise the doors ...not meant as an insult to the pistols by any means

grapple (grapple), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 04:25 (nineteen years ago)

one line of "god save the queen" is better poetry than anything ever written by any moron rock star who claimed to be inspired by rimbaud/nietzsche/blah blah blah.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 04:29 (nineteen years ago)

Both: Glenn Danzig

Brian O'Neill (NYCNative), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 04:51 (nineteen years ago)

Sex Pistols have had better movies fo sho

erklie (erklie), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

yeah yeah just combine the two and you got the Misfits......problem solved....

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

The Doors. Only slightly overrated while Sex Pistols are enormously overrated.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

the damned
gun club

uh. maybe even the cult!

Shelly Winters Death Clip (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

Geir geir geir...

wtf does overrated mean? Fifty dollar bills, overrated. Lint balls, not overrated. Lint balls >> $50.

Doors - excruciating and dull.
Pistols - overplayed and dull, but exciting at one time.

Dave will do (dave225.3), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

The Doors had the better bass player.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

That's actually true. Just because you don't know his name....

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

Heh heh...

Actually, that mention of Glenn Danzig intrigues me. Who else might plausibly split the Doors/Pistols difference? Billy Idol? Mark E. Smith?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Kevin Coyne - mentioned as a possible replacement for Jim Morrison/ a favourite of John Lydon's

Rotatey Diskers With Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

But the obvious answer is Iggy

Rotatey Diskers With Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

above SHOULD read-

Doors - overplayed and dull, but exciting at one time, inspired Stooges so already BY FAR BETTER. (no mention of RM)
Pistols - overplayed and dull, but exciting at one time, inspired Hawt Tawpick Mall Punk, so already DAMNED TO HELL!!!!

also, it's better to drink w/ the doors (more catalog)whereas Sex Pistols only have one disc really...

eedd, Tuesday, 7 March 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

The Doors had the better bass player. The Pistols' bass player (Glen Matlock, that is, not Sid Vicious) was the only proper musician in the band.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:49 (nineteen years ago)

Doors. I find it risible, nay, Mr. Mojo risible, for someone to dismiss the Doors for their pompous and ridiculous lead singer only to tout the merits of Mr. Lydon.

Okeigh, Tuesday, 7 March 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

Me, I hate teh Doors, but I don't want to incur the wrath of Stormy.

Redd Scharlach (Ken L), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:03 (nineteen years ago)

Nor the sneer of Dadaismus.

Redd Scharlach (Ken L), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:04 (nineteen years ago)

"submission" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "hello i love you"

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

Doors

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:26 (nineteen years ago)

ex pistols if your aged 11- 18 ... otherwise the doors ...not meant as an insult to the pistols by any means

WTF? are you british or something? cuz, like liking the Doors is a teenage ritual in the U.S....sex pistol is usually discovered later.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

The Doors are who you like after you find out Jimi Hendrix is dead.

Mike W (caek), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 01:21 (nineteen years ago)

the doors are who you like when you realize they practically were the main inspriation for echo and the bunnymen, the sound, teardrop explodes, joy division, and the stooges.

animal collective is probably what you like when you think the doors are what you listen to when you find out jimi hendrix is dead.

sex pistols are just kind of boring, ha!

corey c (shock of daylight), Thursday, 9 March 2006 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, that mention of Glenn Danzig intrigues me. Who else might plausibly split the Doors/Pistols difference? Billy Idol? Mark E. Smith?

Danzig is more a result of Doors/Damned than Pistols.

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 9 March 2006 07:42 (nineteen years ago)

"submission" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "hello i love you"
-- J.D

Holy shit, they share the same riff! I never noticed that before. Wonder if the Pistols were ordered to pay royalties to the Kinks, just like the Doors had to...

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 9 March 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

i never noticed till lydon mentioned it in his book! (in which he also reveals that he likes the doors! who'd have figured that?)

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 9 March 2006 08:26 (nineteen years ago)

I've got you in my camera
I've got you in my camera
A second of your life
Ruined for life

jim morrison never wrote a line like that!

dr x o skeleton, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

He wrote lots of other good lines tho

Rotatey Diskers With Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

The Doors were crap.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

ahhh, but arty crap!

not so for the Sex Pistols...
plus, you could always go for quantity, in which case the Doors again.

eedd, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

the sex pistols not arty? not art skool, maybe. what else would you call their jamie reid covers, vivienne westwood clothes and situationist stunts?

dr x o'skeleton, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Malcolm McLaren??
