ADMIN: Thread Deletions

Over on ILE there is a no-deletions policy. Here there isn't. We just got a complaint from the woman who actually owns thetruth@hotmail.com that she'd been spammed with loads of irrelevant shit after 'The Truth' started his thread about Helen.

If you start a thread using somebody else's email address and it causes them hassle then i) you are being an arse, ii) it will get deleted. As we all know from the deluge of sexmandi e-mails the addresses that turn up here get harvested for spam so PLEASE show a bit of thought and don't use fake hotmail addresses which are likely to be taken just because they sound cool or make a point. Thanks.

New answers because this is important.

Oh yeah and I deleted the thread in question.

most fake email addresses are stupid. someone is bound to own the domain you're using. if you must use a fake address, just put rubbish for the top level domain and not '.com' or whatever. this applies when filling in forms on the web too, and not just ILx

michael i didn't entirely follow that

like this?

MarkH, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yep. people often use stuff like 'someone@something.com', and that means the poor owner of something.com gets any resulting responses, spam etc

Example. You can be creative & have fun with it!

If you're starting a thread with a bogus address, PLEASE MAKE SURE you don't tick the 'send responses' box with "yes", though!

eight months pass...
Twice today I've deleted just-started threads called "Best Rape Song" or similar, started by an anonymous non-logged-in troll, from an IP number new to ILM. I don't think this general topic area shd be taboo, obviously, but I also don't think the thread-title should be so thoughtlessly inflammatory.
