I recently read a little bit about Moondog and became interested. I'm wondering what his music sounds like. Who/what can it be compared to? Any information on his music making process would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

heyy I just heard about Moondog as well. I was looking into it further and found that a good starting point would be either
"The Viking of Sixth Avenue"
or
"More Moondog/The Story of Moondog"
Viking is a compilation, has 36 tracks and is $15.28
More/Story are two albums, has 30 and is $13.48

I'm inclined to get More/Story but was wondering what those who are more familiar with his work think the right way to go is.

I have the an album simply entitled "Moondog," and it's beautiful stuff. Be ready for "classical"-ish sounding music that shifts between uneasiness and joy, with a strong rhythmic underpinning and a droning quality to it. I think it's great. It only has 6 tracks, I believe.

Also seek out Moondog's "Sax Pax for a Sax."
"More Moondog/The Story of Moondog" is a good starting point.

moondog 1 and 2 remain personal faves...the first being more orchestral and lush, the second being mostly vocal rounds. you can find a bgo twofer reissue of these if you search around.
